Hey, sorry to bother everyone, i was just freaking out and was looking for some personal experience...
I noticed my dog has a 1 inch irregular, lumpy growth coming from her upper canine gums. I keep a good eye on my pets and i swear this thing popped up overnight! i noticed the lump on the side of her face and i lifted her lip and there was this monster that made my heart drop and tears well up....we lost a rescue to mammary cancer just 5 yrs ago, but she came to us on hospice so we were well aware and just got her out of the shelter and comfortable.
I can't call the vet until tomorrow but i'm hoping they can get me in by Tuesday at the latest.
Until then i am so scared....she was a rescue and we got her just a year and a half ago. We don know anything about her other than she was chained and it grew into her neck (she has scars) and they had to get the fire dept to cut the padlock off the chain when she was found. I had to get her spayed and she obviously had at least 1 litter before we got her.

im sorry...probably rambling....but she plays and acts very young and plays with my 1yr old dog more than my 4yr olds.

Anyone have any experience with these types of oral growths? typically benign or cancerous? and if its cancer how long do they typically have with such a fast growing growth???

Thanks and sorry if im being a pain!!!

i wanted to add, that despite this she is still acting completely normal and eating and drinking as good as ever.

They are usually benign, a form of skin tags in dogs from what I remember. You're doing the right thing having it looked at. Hoping its nothing :)

Thanks, so good to hear!
i was looking it up, and the internet is great for making you think the worst.
I am just a nervous wreck because of how fast it appeared!
i was just snuggling on her fri night and doing nail clips on everyone. then last night (sat) i come home from a busy day and she has what looked like a swollen lip.....

geez, the emotions you go through when you live with animals...:( bittersweet....

Do yourself a huge favor and don't work yourself into a mess with the stupid Internet. The more you read on there the crazier it gets. Not that I've ever done it :D (yeah right) is she a PBT? What breed if not?

That goes for us too... DO NOT under any circumstances look at WebMD if you have a medical concern LOL. Not that I've ever done it either :54:

@Sadie - I know it's so hard not to worry when something is going on with our pets, I've been through that lots of times too. Please try to keep yourself otherwise occupied until you can call the vet's office tomorrow. Good luck!

i appreciate it :)
i know i had a stomach pain one time and went to web md out of curiosity and found out if i didn't go to the er asap my appendix would explode!....i didn't though and i'm still around, appendix and all lol

but its such a different ballpark when its your pets!

this thing is just so huge and ugly! i am keeping an eye on it today, no change...
I just went through the emotional ringer with our hospice pups cancer that i can't help but think the worst...
we go her out of the gassing pound nov. 11th and she passed jan 13th, but she had the most spoiled rotten xmas :)

praying its a removable benign thing....

No, not gross.. We're pet people here:)

I think TessieB is or was (?) an experienced vet tech. Hopefully she sees this and chimes in or PM her.

Good luck. I can't wait to hear when you have your vet appointment and what they say.

thanks so much, i will be calling the vet first thing in the morning to try to get her seen asap.

she is chewing on her antlers and playing like normal, its like she doesn't seem to be bothered by it...and i can't stop thinking about it!

How's your girl? Will you be able to get her to the vet today?

Please don't worry yourself sick. Oral tumors in dogs aren't very uncommon. I'm no vet, nor a vet assistant. It looks like it could be gingival hyperplasia. I think your vet will do x-rays and a biopsy. Best of luck, and please keep us posted.

HUGS!!!

I JUST seen this after i updated! that is exactly what he plans on doing! Thanks so much, i wish he could have gotten me in today...and he does surgery's on tuesdays :(

but i am a nut and asked him to view the pics via email and he didn't seem too concerned...
poor guy, i was calling them at 7 55 this morning and they dont open until 8...

I'm just gonna venture a guess: Is she eating and acting just fine, like nothing is bothering her? How old is she (sorry if you posted it and I missed it)? Her teeth look immaculate in the photos, so it could be something as simple as her getting something stuck in her gum line, and bacteria got in there. Is the growth right along her canine (long fang)??

i honestly have no idea how old she is. Rescue told us 9 months, vet said 2+ (that was a yr and a half ago) so between 2 and 5 now maybe???
her teeth are yellow tinted but she doesn't have any visible plaque and her gums are a nice pink (no red).

but yeah, other than the visible lump you can see on her lip, that you cant even notice unless your always checking your dogs lol she is acting perfectly fine, still using chew toys and eating, running around with the youngest dog and initiating play fights.

it does look like its growing out of the gum line of the top canine, it doesnt move when you push on it and she just gets slightly annoyed when you touch it. but she was never a fan of her mouth being looked into for too long.

hey, thank you for asking :)
it went..ok.
He didn't give much info, just that is was a good sign that it hasn't grown any since i discovered it and hasn't bled at all.

He decided not to do xrays until the biopsy comes back, so more worry and stress, since he thinks they will be in monday....

But in the meantime he gave us some antibiotics and an anti inflammatory to see if that helps...

She seems just fine though and has no change in behavior. my other dog have been coming over to her and licking her face where it is on her mouth though, so that is freaking me out...i'm thinking OMG they know its going to kill her!!!
