Hi! I would like help! I just adopted a 2 year old Jardine's. Wonderful bird, affectionate, friendly. She bit me at the owner's but not since. She cuddles with me and likes her head scratched. Two things:

1. She won't play... I'm trying to go slow and introduce her to lots of toys. She's afraid of the swing, ladder... I don't force her and I respect her body language and leave her alone when she wants to be left alone.

2. She only talks to men!

I have had her only 2 wks. Any suggestions would be great. I had heard how playful Jardine's are, but I see no evidence in this one. Do I just need to be more patient? The closest she has come to playing is picking up my pen or hair barretts and playing with them.

I have read a TON about Jardine's - she sure seems different.

Thanks!

OOOps looks like you've had her for 2wks :30:

She is still probably getting used to her environment. I have had my Moluccan for about 5 wks now and she started to play with her toys around week 4. She still isn't playing with them like I know she will in another month or two. Some take longer to adjust than others. Don't worry soon she'll be into everything. Did she play with toys at her previous home? If her previous home didn't have any for her then may have to teach her to play with them but it may be a little soon.

Hi, thanks for the reassurance! She came with a giant trash bag of toys!! Yes, she played at previous owner's - but they really spoiled her - if she needed to get on a perch they would help her instead of letting her figure it out! Heck, they even shelled her almonds for her - no kidding!.. Anyway, your post made me feel better!

WOW, it sounds like they really spoiled her rotten for sure. I would give her time, 2 weeks is not enough time. I think she will slowly come around. She was probably quite attached to her previous owners.

hi as for the toys my senegal wouldn't play with toys and was scared with them. so i decided to play with them for her and over act how fun they was and within a couple of days she was playing with them, you could try this with yours. it worked for me. And anything new i bring home for her i will show her its safe to play with first or she is very cautious.

Hope this helps

Thanks all! You know we all probably look foolish if we could be seen LOL. I cheer my bird as if she were one of my students - I play with her toys as if they are the most amazing things invented... So I had to laugh when I saw your post....

When I first brought Valentine home, he didn't play with any of his toys, let alone me for almost a month. Just give her time, she'll come around. :)

It will take time... it took Abby about a month before she started playing with her toys.

Just keep building a bond...

I brought home a re-homed budgie about 4 weeks ago, and he's just finally starting to play with the toys I've put in his cage. They just need to become comfortable in their new surroundings first :)

Talking to men is like talking to the Chinese Wall and men dont notice if it is a bird or a girl so of cause she only talking to men they dont understand and dont argue back
