Misted with unsafe spray bottle

So about 2 weeks ago I emptied a window cleaner bottle and ran boiling water several times through it then let it soak and repeated a few more times.. taste tested it thought all was good.
Today my gf told me she could slightly smell chemicals after spraying her hand with it which I don't smell but I admit i do not have a great sense of smell.

I've used it several times on my alexandrine and i'm now very worried.
I've thrown it out and yes i'm an IDIOT.
I guess my question is how would I know if i've done any damage and is there anything i could do?

Ok so now you know to go buy a new one. We all learn a lesson or two and the consequences of what we do I suppose depends on how daft we are.

Are there any indications that your bird is not OK as a result? Yes straight to AV, no keep on being vigilant without spooking him/her.

Dont beat yourself up too much, one would think doing what you did to that spray bottle would have removed any vestige of previous chemical. Did you also do the same to the actual spray mechanism? You have to run a lot of water thru those to get all of the previous liquid out. Best is to buy an unused spray bottle.

But I would think your guys eyes would be the first place to look for any reaction to the water that was in the spray bottle, they are the most sensitive part of his exterior. Next would be a skin reaction, and you can look at any bare skin to see if he is running a reaction. All parrots have bare skin , ie no feathers, at the base of their necks. If you 'lexie will cooperate, I would look there. Feathers will react last I think.
If you see any change in these, then your AV vet should be seen. You may have dodged a bullet, but keep a close watch for a few more days.

I did clear the spray mechanism but no where near as much that's probably where the residue is.
Only thing i can say is she sneezes while stretching one leg and wing a couple times a day i've read they do that to clear their nasal and is not an actual sneeze? there's no discharge also I can't say if that started from misting or just how i got her because I haven't had her for long, Now that I think about it chemicals down her nose would probably cause that to happen ?
I would be able to a see a vet for atleast a week..
She eats,drinks shreds toys all day seem normal but I don't know what the symptoms would be if the misting did harm her, like whats the worst possibility?

Anything that shows she is off her game ie a change in poop, not eating usual amount or eating lots more, sleepy, more active, tail bobbing, eye not clear and discharge from cere or eye. This type of thing.

Heavy mist.
wrench13 covered external but i'm more worried about internal, pretty sure water would of got through her nose/mouth.
Could I have caused serious internal damage? if so what? not knowing this feels much worse!

And, yet another reason not to spray Parrots in the face!

Slow deep breaths! Relax, you more than likely got very lucky. There are far worse bottles you could have chosen than window cleaner. Thank-goodness you washed /cleaned the bottle /sprayer prior to use.

EDIT: The eyes, ears, and Air Sacks at the primary areas of concern, with the list starting with eyes, then Air Sacks and lastly the ears. Eyes, have been covered! The Air Sacks would present much the same as an infection!

Eye's and skin I wouldn't be able to tell good from bad so I'll take pics when I get up, i'll look into air sac infection cause I have zero idea what symptoms are also! geez i'm a good first parront

Going to bathe her with CLEAN water first thing in morning to maybe wash any residue off. Can't think of anything else that will maybe help.

Infection of air sacks can present as a rattling when breathing if you can get your ear close enough to listen without missing one.

If you are sufficiently concerned then book that AV appointment, explain what has happened and ask if they think it is serious enough to be squeezed in?

First of all, this could happen to anyone, trust me, I've had birds since I was 6 (37 now) and I still do stupid things and afterwards I usually have the "Now that was you being a moron, wasn't it?" talk with myself...The fact that you realized what you did and are obviously very concerned about your bird does make you a good first-time Parront! I hate to say it but a lot of people wouldn't have given it a second thought, so you're already a great deal ahead...

As already mentioned you need to listen to his breathing and if you hear any wheezing, crackling, or see him struggling to breathe then it may be irritated air sacs and he needs to see the avian vet immediately. I'd keep an eye out for him scratching at his eyes, his nares, his feet, just look for him being generally irritated. Watch the skin on his feet for redness, peeling, any signs of burns. As already said window cleaner isn't horrible, it's mostly soap and water, so I think you'll probably be OK. Thank God it wasn't a cleaner that had bleach in it or any type of really caustic bathroom cleaner or something like that. Giving him a good long bath is a very good idea to try to rinse any residue off of his skin and out of his eyes/ears. I think he'll be fine, you washed the bottle out very well so there wasn't much cleaner left in it at all, but better safe than sorry. If you notice any change in him at all get him to an avian vet ASAP...

Gave her a loooong shower she seems happy, it's funny how i'm more worried about her health than my own.
I just feel really bad because I got a clear picture of her being misted in my head, wings out, big baby black eyes staring at me, head tilted slightly back just loving being misted with chemicals.... lol?
I put my ear right on her beak for a good 20 seconds (didn't care if she took a chunk off I probably deserve it) and couldn't hear her breathing let alone other noises. Feet look ok, bare skin to inspect I couldn't find..

Since, she allowed you t get your ear good and close. See if she will allow you to place your ear against her chest. This will give you an opportunity to hear her heart. Do not try to count, just listen. The goal is to over time get a feel for the sound of her heat rate at different states. Not important at this point. As time goes on, you can develop a reference as a way of checking in on how she is doing.

Regarding the feather coloring, just call it baby color, her next molt will get you much closer to her Adult Colors.
