Mishka cousin is coming to visit

Must share this with you all
Mishka is practicing so hard to welcome Zazo.......
This morning she started saying " Hello Zazo"

Zazo is going to be so into Mishka, you just wait and see.

My mind is working overtime.........what if this and what if that !!!!!!!!

Zazo will be staying for 2 weeks, they will be in the same room during the day, expect for at night. They will be under strict supervision etc.
Sure all will go well. Hopefully they get along great.

What troubles me is when Zazo goes back home, how will Mishka react?

Won't she feel lonely (for another bird) and start pinning for Zazo?
Become withdrawn and quiet?
Think Zazo was taken away because she did something wrong?

I am just trying to make sure, that when Zazo leaves, Mishka does not stress,
goes back into routine etc without any problems.

Any suggestions !!!!!!!

I don't know if any other sport has such "passionate" supporters as soccer. Are you going to any games Ant? It would be a great experience

I reckon our biggest passion here in South Africa is Rugby. I love the game. I think I am the biggest Springbok supporter LoL.

I had the pleasure of working with the Springboks in '07. I've worked with lots of athletes over the years and I have to say they are probably the biggest, esp Victor Matfield. I do a lot of soft tissue work and have at times worked for several hours straight with teams, the physicality doesn't usually bother me however, after the jobs with the 'boks I was exhausted.

As for Mishka I wouldn't worry too much about what MIGHT happen. Hopefully she'll love the company and when her cousin's gone back home she'll be happy to you all to herself again

I think Mel's right about how she'll act when Zazo leaves. Just think of it as if you had company for 2 weeks. It's nice to see them, but it's also great to have your house back when they leave.

and....Yea! more sports fans! Being in the US, I don't watch Rugby and not much soccer, either. But I lovelovelovelove American Football and baseball. I get to the ballpark for a baseball game as often as I can and football season starts in 3 months. Jade's not so much into it, but Max loves to watch football with us.

What a life experience you have had, working with the Springboks. :D
My youngest son Steven is studying Sports Communication at Varsity.
They have to cover certain training, personal training, bio kinetics, physiotherapy etc, Would be wonderful if he had the opportunity, working with the tops rugby teams.

As for Mishka, I know she can look after herself LoL we will see haha

You are so correct, nice company, great to have our apartment to ourselves again. Yesterday, I cleared out the wall unit, removed all the ornaments, it's all glass......... now I just have to dust LoL :63:

Mishka has been taught to scream Go Bokke Go must get that on video.

Our friends have a male Ecky who screams "Go Go!" any time sports is on the TV. I started watching NFL a couple of yrs ago, once I understod what was going on it I could help get into it. My son's a Saints fan so he was a happy boy last season.

Zazo has arrived.... I could not wait until Friday  SO I picked him up today. In the car he said to me, hello, and Zazo is a good boy. He is already taking treats from me, and let me scratch his head.
I have their cages about 3 metres apart, they seem okay with that. Mishka sat in the far corner for about 30 minutes, then let Zazo know she was there. She introduced herself saying Mishka is a good girl, Mishka this and Mishka that. I left Zazo in his cage for about 1 hour. Zazo looked uncomfortable in his cage, I opened the top. He has been sitting there all day "eyeing" Mishka out.
Now and again Zazo takes "flight" LoL his wings are clipped. We have made terrific progress, he lets me pick him up without a stick, onto my hand. My no one is able to pick him up without a stick.
I was holding Zazo, introducing them to one another, Mishka's cage door was closed.
I reckon Mishka suddenly realized that this is Zazo....... she started saying hello Zazo, call Zazo, and whistling, Zazo is a good boy. Poor Zazo, he says very little, makes the sounds of car alarms and sounds of bubbles. BUT then again Mishka has not given Zazo much of a chance to get a word in.
Let the fun and games begin

They will teach eachother various bird things. Mishka will conduct language class every day. It will be interesting to see what Za's vocabulary is when the visit is concluded.

Poor Zazo, every time he says hello, or makes a sound, Mishka cuts him short, she starts talking, whistling and singing, every possible word, sentence and song she knows.
Mishka carried on for 2 hours nonstop.

I honestly feel sorry for Zazo. I put a beautiful soft whistling CD, to calm her down. Had peace and quiet for about 5 minutes.
Zazo is sure in for the lesson of his life LoL

Ps..... do they sell earplugs for African Grey's?????????????

She is showing he stuff trying to impress him. You know how we gals can chat away!!

Oh, I can't wait to hear how it goes. Please do keep us posted!

My sister told me Zazo is a very stressed bird most of the time.
Zazo refused to eat or drink anything from his bowls, the entire day.
I kept offering him his food and water, he willingly took from me.

Dinner time went okay with Mishka, made them fresh veggies and mash. Nothing will stop her from eating.
Zazo on the other hand still refused to eat, again only talking it from my hand. OMG this took forever !!!!!

Later I gave Mishka yoghurt, as usual she gulped it down. While feeding her the yoghurt, I placed Zazo's bowl quite near him, hoping to wet his appetite. When offering it to him, bless his soul, just wanted to attack the bowl LoL. It was hilarious to see. I must have sat there for about 5 minutes, he beak "accidentally" touched the yoghurt, haha best "accident" he has ever had, he loved the yoghurt.

Spoke to Nikki (my sister) later, said Zazo has never eaten yoghurt before........

I guess it's going to be a better vacation for him, than his guardian's vacation :D

Ps.... Mishka is sleeping now, resting her voice) haha.
Spent time with Zazo, scratching his head, and talking to him, he is so adorable, when I covered his cage said nightie nightie to him, he said "nightie Zazo is a good boy" how cute is he !!!!! ;)

Why does that not surprise me with you?

I wish I was in your house it would be so entertaining to watch the 2 of them. :D

It surprised me !!!!!!!! Picking him up with my injured hand,
I WAS PETRIFIED, I swear (okay I won't) haha. It's like birds know to be gentle with my hand.
Reckon they are kind to the hand that feeds them.

I think Greencheek would disagree with you on that one

I'm not surprised because you seem to have a really special rapport with the feathered kingdom

Wish I was a fly on the wall today, going on deliveries and getting stock...
The two of them will have "alone" time LoL

Hope Mishka gives Zazo a break, and lets him get a word in. :63:

So glad that Mishka and Zazo are sharing "birdie company" together. :D

Now you know what it would be like to have two birds. Are you game? This thread is going to win the prize for the longest thread ever!!
