I got a call from Mihijo's doctor and she went over his numbers with me. She is pleased with the bile acid dropping to 90. The cholesterol went from 1243 to 1084. Its a improvement but not good enough as she wants it lower than 260. His other levels have dropped but are still elevated because of the blood fat.

Even though I have removed the things that Mihijo masturbates on and I have educated the house members how to interact with him without elevating the hormones but I can tell that they are not dropping much. Since the doctor wants his levels to drop even more the next step is the lupron shot to help lower hormone levels.

We are not out of the woods yet. This is expensive for us right now but at this point we have to do what we can to help Mihijo get out of danger.

I did not drop Mihijo off today for the vet. I will take him in tomorrow for his lupron shot and check up. It will be one shot which is apparently different than I use to get them. This one shot is suppose to last 4 months. The doctor stated it is a different formula than what I use to give my Eclectus. (I had to bring him in multiple times for his lupron shots because I had to hand feed him during his illness and he became quite hormonal during the feedings)

Anyway this shot is 110 dollars and I only need to do it once. My hope is that this will help further lower his cholesterol levels so I can continue to help him get better.

The doctor warns me that he may expire suddenly like Diego did. I will do his grooming by hand instead of using the dremmal tool so that I do not stress him out. It is now stated in his record that he cannot be seen by just a tech because of stress levels likely will cause seizures. He almost seized last Friday when I took him in which made the doctor to make the note in his file. This is mainly why I did not want to "drop him off" for her to see him (she had surgeries today) as I want to be there just in case something happens.

I still make my sister uncover him in the morning. I can't do it right now. Once I know he is okay I will feed him his breakfast. Every night before I uncover him I tell him I love him and he tells me "go to bed" or a drawn out "Good niiiiiiight" I whisper to him "don't die" and go upstairs to bed. Although this situation upsets me I try to project a positive attitude for my parrot so that he can remain the silly little macaw that he is. Mihijo is extremely bonded to all of us and is a really laid back parrot so this helps in his favor with stress levels.

I love this bird. I took him home at 2 and half months old and Mihijo will be 17 years old this February. This is not old age for him but rather early adulthood for him. God willing this bird should live at least 20 more years.

Luperon is used to lower the hormone levels in birds. In humans the woman gets the shot and she has birth control for 4 months (she does not have her menses for the 4 months) My Mihijo is not doing well at all.
