Hey guys, quick question. Pita LOVES rope dog toys, the ones that are a length of rope with a large knot at each end. I don't why why but they are her favorite. Are they safe to give to her? She dosent eat them and the one I have now she search's for when I take it out.

The problem with many rope toys is birds will chew and pick at the strands. Can be a severe problem if they develop the habit of swallowing pieces; a proven killer of birds. If you monitor the toy very closely may be safe.

Thanks so much Scott. I don't think I will take the risk. She loves the toys but it makes me nervous as I can't watch her 24/7. I might get one to play with outside of the cage where she can sit by me but I'm not sure.
Also here are some better quality Pita pics along wit the chop I made.

The picture of the cage is when I first got it, also that wicker ball toy is very dead now :)

Really nice pics, tasty looking chop!

Does Pita like wood toys? Goffins can turn large wood blocks into toothpics!

She does like wood toys but she only likes the colorful interesting ones. She has a block toy in her cage that she kind of chews on but I can see it's not her favorite

Welcome home to the ''the Queen''! Certainly looks it, and from the pics settling in nicely as well! Here's to a forever home journey.

Pita is so smart! I watched one of The Flock Talks YouTube videos on teaching the "Wave" . Halfway through training Pita was in the "Grab hand for treat" phase. She hopped over to my leg and rested her foot on my leg before looking at me expectantly. After 15 min she knows how to "Wave" on command as long as I am holding a sunflower seed! It's nuts how smart she is!

Hee hee - and she'll keep proving it and surprising you every day! :) Sometimes in delightful ways, sometimes in frustrating ones a smart bird is a double-edged sword kinda thing, but the good outweighs the bad.

Welcome and be welcomed, Pita. We hope you have many, many years in your new home.

I should have named mine PITA because they can be a real Pain In The...

Just kidding of course!

I know we were discussing cages on the other thread. Ironically, the cage pictured is one that Loki temporarily lived in. He was definitely a bit cramped in there. His screaming and pacing has gone down a bit since being put in a larger cage.

So I have not actually seen Pita eat her pellets before. Last night we a had a small get together since my grandparents came to town (Pita did very well!). I was sitting with her to make sure she was calm and she grabs a pellet and starts munching on it! I was so proud!

We stayed up late last night because I was busy mowing and I wanted to give Pita some quality time. Unfortunatly she decided she wasn't ready to go to bed and that screaming would get her what she wanted. I could not cover her cage because it's too hot so I slept on the couch downstairs where I could STILL hear her  She has a loud voice thats for sure.

So Pita was LOUD this morning. My mom left for work at 5:00 like she usually does and Pita SCREAMED until 6:30. This is when I get her out to watch cartoons are have some quality time before I leave for school at 7:30. Anywho, my mother and I have decided to make the living room the "birb room". We are getting a playstand, a parrot cargo net and the cage that I want for Pita (I linked it in another post somewhere so you might know what I mean). Even the little birbs will love the new living room.

Sounds like you are placing the birds at the center of the "family." Great idea!

Loki has had a couple nights over the past couple weeks where he starts screaming at 1 a.m. I am assuming something startled him, but who knows.
In general he screams, by far, the most frequently of my crew.

Since I've had Pita I have started to compile a list of what foods she likes (this will also make it easier on my parent when I am gone). I thought I'd share it here just in case someone wants to know. :)
She likes/eats (for now)
Zupreem Fruit blend Pellets
Zupreem Pure fun mix
Banana Chips (dried)
Peas? (She picks them out of the Fun mix but I believe that's what they are. Dried)
Corn
Broccoli(Major fav)
Cauliflower(Second best if I don't have broccoli)
Kale?(She sometimes likes this)
Almonds
Some of this is not on a daily basis but this is just a list of her diet at this moment.

Some favorites of my Goffins: Apple, sweet potato, yams, green peas, garbanzo beans, banana, corn on the cob, in small segments, cooked whole-grain spiral noodles, lima beans, pomegranate seeds, melon seeds, honeydew/cantaloupe. I give them a tiny piece of string cheese weekly, they also love dense whole-grain bread as a treat. Of course, millet sprays, and definitely almonds! Try to ration the nuts as they are high-fat content!
