Hi! I've recently joined and I want to introduce my budgie Piper! She's about 1 year old and I've had her for about 6 months!

She's got a mansion of a cage and pretty much gets free reign of the house when I'm home. She's an excellent flyer haha.

I've been working on bonding with her and getting her comfortable with me pretty much since I got her. We're going pretty slow because she's nervous and hesitant. She's totally fine when I'm sitting on my normal spot on the couch and if I'm not there she calls out to me but if I stand closer to her cage or put my hand in (for training or for changing food/water) she gets very nervous. So that's what we're working on at the moment, just being comfortable together.

(I've got some questions about it but I'll post a different topic, this is just an intro for my cute little fluffy girl)

Very cute! Question - how do you get her back into the cage?

You're doing a great job of getting to know her. I like your style.

What a striking bird. What's that color mutation called, I wonder. Anybody know? She makes me think of cockatiels!!!!

How did she get her name?

She actually just takes herself back into her cage! She loves it in there ahah. I've been told she's cobalt sf golden face sf spangle sf dominant pied which is a bit of a mouthfull! She's called Piper because she's pied haha so she's the pied piper. But also as soon as I told my friends and mum they said it reminded them of the character in charmed. When I get her some friends I'm going to name them after other charmed characters haha.

My Bluebell also loves her cage! A lot of the time she actually chooses to stay in her cage instead of coming out. If only my other birds liked their cages...

She's lovely! Just a small worry .. she is a good flier, and budgies are small and quiet. It's very easy for them to fly out an open door or window without really intending to, and especially the kitchen can be dangerous. Is there a way to set up a kind of budgie airlock, so there's always a door between Piper and the outside door?

My house is pretty small and pretty open plan too so there's only like 2 doors in the whole house. I can't really keep her away from external doors but I am very careful. If her cage is open I don't go outside.
