Oatey came home with us this morning!! His hatch date is 5/20/2016 and he already has our hearts :D

My husband suggested the name Oatey - quaker ... oatmeal... oatey... I was thinking about going with Athos (my favorite of the three musketeers) but he seems to like Oatey more

This is my first opportunity to teach words and tricks from the start! Can already tell he will learn "hi" and "oh i love you" because I think I've said that more often than anything else hah... so excited, he's such a sweet love!!!

I like the name too! but I havent really.... felt the name is right for him :\ there is still a slight possibility that it may change

Congratulations and a warm welcome to the forums! He's darling and just a baby! Not all birds talk but with a quaker there's a great chance that he will.

Yeah we're keeping him in a different room than the other birds so I'm thinking that will help with learning words and tricks and stuff.

going to spent time today researching best ways to potty train and trick train and all that ^_^

so he's having trouble eating :\ I guess this was why he was the last one left-- he liked being babied ... but he won't even eat the soggy pellets like the seller told me to :(

any recommendations?

Not really :\ I've sat with him a number of times today and tried to get him to eat but he's just throwing them on the floor ... he's sort of had some cheerios and store brand parakeet seed, but not the good pellets that he was eating before I got him ... I only gave him some seed because I didn't want him to starve :(

Have you tried fruits or veggies? Most birds love fruit. In the meantime keep offering pellets. You may have to experiment until you find a brand he likes.

A good diet can include pellets, fresh fruits and veggies and a good chop recipe. Minimal seed is best.

Here are some recipes you can try as well. ;) Good luck!

Welcome to Oatey! :) You migh try soaking some pellets in water or unsweetened fruit juice to soften them. Lots of parrots like the soaked pellets, and it can help introduce pellets to a parrot who isn't used to eating them. Both Ralph the QP and Scooter the CAG will eat dry pellets, but they both enjoy some softened pellets every day too. You can try serving some to Oatey from a spoon. When I do that, both my parrots think they're getting something really special. :D

Yeah I tried softening them in water (the guy who sold him recommended that) but he still spit it out :\ I tried mango and he did not like it at all ... maybe I'll go get a couple other fruits and such to try them out like kiwi or something.. he seems to notice the brighter colors better..

The seller also warned me that the possibility of him starving is high so that I should definitely make sure he's eating... no help with my anxiety, but at least now I'm paying closer attention... :(

we spent a lot of the afternoon with him cuddled on my shoulder under my chin ^_^ love this little guy :)

so if his poop is both white and black does that mean he's eating?

EDIT: I just read that if it is black and not green it means it's just bile???

That face is adorable... both of you, actually!
How precious... likes pickles, not Pringle's, or maybe he does.
Your voice is so calming and sweet.
The name Oatey is as cute and unique as he is. Still, I will understand if it doesn't "stick". George Fox was the founder of the Quakers... he kinda looks like a "George" to me. Maybe you should have a 'name the Quaker' poll!

Oatey is the name my husband picked and it seems to be settling in... Or Oatey seems to like it, at least :)
