My names Ashley and I have a fantastic Galah cockatoo. She came from a physically abusive home, and when my friends first rescued her she could barely walk, was completely terrified of men(and still afraid of women), missing most of her feathers, refusing to eat (noodles eventually did the trick) and a small chunk of her upper mandible. I've known her for 4 years but she's only been mine for a little over a month. my friends, who are more like adopted grandparents, are getting older and couldn't give her the attention she deserved because of there health and other birds(African grey and Blue and Gold Macaw)

She is doing awesome now, her feathers are vibrant and she's getting lots of attention. Before she wouldn't step up, and after 4 days I got her to start stepping up. She now steps up like a pro! She's also eating more fruits and vegetables, but I she still mostly eats a fortified/pellet mix diet. I hope to have her diet changed a lot by a year.

It's kind of funny, other then me she seems to hate women and loves men, yet several years ago she was terrified of men.

Here's some photo's of Rosie, she's a beautiful dark morph Galah.

some of the feathers on her wing won't grow back. Her back is also bald, but her wings cover it.

Here she is out in the sun. Because she got way to many sunflower seeds her feathers look weird in this photo, they are now a solid grey and look so vibrant.

This is a recent photo, and if you look at her wing you can see that they are a solid grey.

I think they are one of the most striking parrots we have. You are very fortunate to have her.

Welcome to the forums...

The colours of your Galah are so vibrant... I know that they are called Rose-breasted Cockatoos overseas.. Do they get redder as they age?

There's different subspecies(at least 3),one of those being the dark morph that my Galah is. I love how dark her colors are  Also Galah is being used more now, it's about 50/50 for the names in America :)

This is a photo from a Galah cockatoos breeders website of a normal morph cockatoo and a dark morph. It's naturally occurring but not as common, and isn't seen very often out of australia. I really wish I new what happened to Rosie before I met her, she is open banded so she could of been wild caught, but then maybe her owners just moved to America and had her banded in customs.
