MCT Oil?

I've done some searching and couldn't find any reference at all to this topic on the forum. Does anybody know anything about it?

I bought a box of "100% Pure & Natural Therapeutic Grade" Lavender Oil at Walmart in the H&B section. Its actually a "roll-on" (like deodorant) for relaxing. But one of the ingredients (other than Lavender- listed as: lavandula angustifolia) is something called "MCT oil" with 'cocos nucifera' in parenthesis next to it. From what I could tell from Google its some sort of extract of coconut oil.

I don't plan on using it on Skitty, but rather on myself after he goes to bed and I'm relaxing. But before I use it I want to make sure its not toxic to the smell or touch.

MCT oil does not give off any odors. It's fractionated coconut oil, aka "liquid coconut oil" which has simply had some particular particles removed which normally are part of standard coconut oil. If Skitty's not ingesting it there shouldn't be any way for MCT oil to cause harm. (NOT to say whether it Could harm or Not IF eaten by bird, then I just wouldn't know. Tho, it can upset human tummies, so I'd vote against trying it in birdie food!) The MCT itself does not have any fumes or odor, it's just coconut oil with some of it removed.

Thank you for the information. I'm mainly going to use it at night after a lavender bath (after Skitty goes to bed). I bought it and kept the receipt just in case since tomorrows a holiday, I didn't want to have to go back and buy it so I chanced it lol.

The greatest concern with near all of these products is the scent, even chemically created, neutral scents. Remember, scents by Law, are not required to list what they contain.

I tend to be VERY pre-cautious when it comes to scents and Skittles. I had just never heard of MCT oil before and I do know there are certain essential oils that are toxic to birds (such as tea tree oil etc) so I wanted to make sure this wasn't one of them. Skittles won't even be in the same room when I use it, but if a toxin or poison remains in the air after the fact, then room location becomes irrelevant. I figure, better safe than sorry with unknown aromas. So now I know and feel confident that its safe to use for myself.

I won't even buy Skittles toys at retail stores anymore. Its like it all has to be guaranteed to be bird safe now. If I can't verify the material/source of the bird product, it don't get purchased or placed in his cage. lol.
