Maverick - BFA (hatchdate: 05/04/2016)
Maverick finally arrived! We picked him up from the airport yesterday evening. Got him home, he stepped out of his carrier onto my hand and I put him in his cage. Left him alone and we went to bed (it was pretty late by the time we got him home). This morning he was making a couple little noises. I sat in the same room and just watched him subtly eat and drink and yawn his cute little yawn.

A couple times throughout the day I've gotten him to step up onto my hand, let me give him a few treats, and go back to the cage within about 5 minutes. He keeps trying to climb up my arm onto my shoulder and into my hair, but I've just been redirecting him. A couple times he fluttered down and around on the floor. His wings got clipped before his trip yesterday, and I think he is realizing he can't fly anymore. Despite all the research and reading we did I'm still SO scared to make a wrong move.

He is a lot smaller than I expected!! He only weighs about 280 grams. He's just at 3 months. When do they reach their full-grown size? I had to go buy a smaller perch and smaller rope perch (which he LOVES) because he was having a hard time with the ones we had already. The plus was there was a clearance toy section and I caught him flicking around this little toy I got for him.

I know it'll take time, but I just want him to love me already and hang out with us haha! :green:

So very happy to hear that your baby boy, Maverick is now in his forever home!

It is amazing how all those hours of reading and researching just turns into mist when your Amazon comes up on to your hand.

Keep the basics in mind and also assure that only good things happen when your Amazon is with you!

Work daily to develop your and (very important) everyone's relationship with your Blue-Fronted Amazon. Socializing is very important.

But at this point, Love Your Amazon!

Your baby will push 390 to 460 grams when fully grown. It will come fast enough. So at this point enjoy!!!!

Softer wood toys! Easy chew wood - if you can indent is with your finger nail it will be good for a young Amazon!

Welcome Maverick! How exciting! It looks like you are doing everything right. Maverick is a beauty. As Sailboat mentioned, research is great but it's not quite like hands on. Maverick will teach you everything your research left out. Enjoy the journey.

WELCOME HOME MAVERICK!! :green: :D

All of that waiting, and he is finally at his forever home! YIPPIEEEEE!! It seems like his breeder did a good job on getting him ready for you, kodo's to him :)

Like Steve <Sail Boat> says...socialize...socialize..SOCIALIZE!! Get your new baby to meet EVERYONE..have family members handle him.
Amy is almost 27 years old now,and her weight fluctuates. At her last wellness checkup she weighed in at 482 grams..the year before she was 524!  Her doctor even called her " a little porker"

Just last month she and I went to visit Salty and his family <Wrench13> and when Al weighed her she was at 502g's.

I can not emphasize SOCIALIZE enough! I started with Any when she was just 4 months old. I took her places, she LOVES going for rides! We go to the donut shop, the people there know her by name lol..she rides on the handlebars of the carriage when we go to Wal-Mart and she talks to anyone who will listen. She goes to the pet shop with me,she has been to MY doctor..my doc loves her to bits :D and the girls in his office get a kick out of her when she starts gabbering away.
She has met ALOT of people,so she isn't afraid of people, coz she knows "dad" won't let any harm come to her and I won't let anyone handle her that I don't think is ok.

You are just starting a lifetime of an amazing journey with Maverick, make the most of it. He will love you even more. And there is NOTHING so wonderful as an Amazon's love and devotion :p

As some very wise man once said..."Amazon's Rule"!! ;) oh ya...we need more pictures!!!!!

Welcome home, Beautiful Maverick! He is absolutely beautiful and I look forward to watching your journey together:)

Welcome home to Maverick! It's exciting to meet them at the airport and see them for the first time! To address your question, he'll get heavier yet since he's only 3 months. Not sure what is average for a BFA at that age, but he is a cutie for sure.
