We saw our irn on a website were sure the person selling her used a stock picture off google, so we called the man and straight away we was a bit wary as he didn't know much about her, it was arranged for us to view her that night. So with anticipation me and my partner went to see her we got to the mans house and that's where it began......
In his house in the corner of the room was a small budgie cage with two budgies and a cockatiel in the same cage, so we asked the man where the ring neck was. The mans wife brought her out in a dirty rusty cage that you wouldn't put your worst enemy in so I asked him is that the cage that she has been in all the time he said to my amazement no she was in that cage pointing to the small budgie cage with the birds in (yep she was in there with them) after a look over of her I noticed some blood on her wing he put that down to a blood feather I wasn't to sure. She also had a bald patch on the top of her head where the other birds were nipping at her also a pach around her neck where she was cooped up in that tiny cage. Me and my partner looked at each other and without a word being said we knew we had to take her out of that situation so begrudgingly we paid the man to get her out of the awful conditions (I know it was probly wrong to pay him but I had to get her out of there). So when we got home we had a real good look over her and noticed that the top of her wing was near on cut off so the next day straight to the vet, she was so under weight and malnourished her wing was so badly deformed she would never fly again.
After a few months her feathers started coming back also her colour went from a dull green to a bright green.
And now a year on we have got over her shyness with people and noises also her weight and health. Her wing is still not coming back 100% but she can get some lift. She went from a quite bird scared to make a noise to being a lively signing bird. She will now happily sit on her perch on the outside of the cage and play with her toys.
She has made me cry with pride sometimes as she doesn't go near people (that's what we r working on now) but climbed up the sofa on to my lap for seconds but that was enuf for me she done it.
I thought I would share my irn story with you all as I'm very proud of her. And it goes to show that you can change a birds life and they can change yours.
Ps just so you know I contacted the RSPCA (animal rescue) and the man got investigated.
