okay so i went and got the cage this morning (bussed back with it on the city bus and people gave me some pretty funny looks lol)

but so remember the discussion about the open top? well bonus, THIS cage has hooks on it to hook it shut securely if you dont want to use the open top! i took a video showing how the hooks work, for those curious. so when theyre not in use, i can simply keep them hooked closed, so no birdie is able to open them.

but i am happy with the cage. it's still spacious for mango, he likes it and it fits all of his favourite things.

he's busy feeding his ball, trying to run in his wheel with the ball, until it falls out and he chases after it lol

Nice! I had a cage like that before. Mango looks quite happy in it. :)

LOVE the castle....I mean cage for Mango, and how you set it up!!! :D

I swear, Casey, you are SO creative! KUDOS to you.

Mango made himself right at home, too, didn't he? :D AWESOME set of photos of GORGEOUS Mango!!! Thank you for sharing. :)

Where did you get that wheel?

kijiji lol few years back i put an ad up looking for a free or low priced plastic solid bottomed hamster wheel and someone gave me this one.

its essentially a silent spinner

but more enclosed. i think the silent spinners would be safest for birds. never know what kinds of metal the metal ones are made of, and spokes and mesh can catch toes, legs, tails, or heads or wings....

That's a perfect cage! Where did you get it???

my local favourite petstore. they got a variety of cages, but these prevue ones i really like. theyre small, maybe a bit flimsy but theyre small and lightweight. i have a really bad shoulder, so lightweight is better for me so i can pick it up and clean it better. the doors are huge, they latch shut very well. i love the 18"x18" prevue cages for the price. you get what you pay for.
the cage is 18"x18"x24", has a slide out tray and removable grate, the doors dont swing shut, not even the open top part, they dont fall back shut.

my local favourite petstore is small, family owned. they have 2 stores in this city, both are good. they work with local breeders for their animals, they charge a lot for their animals compared to other places to weed out people just looking for a cheap pet. they also HAVE refused to sell to people if they dont think they are going to be a good pet owner, they are very educated on all sorts of animals. their animals are happy, friendly (even their fish are friendly, swimming to the front of the cage and following you and wanting to see what you are doing lol), and generally healthy and if they fall ill they do vet them. ive always been more than happy going to them, even just to see their animals. im a bit sad because their little black capped conure found a home and when i went today he had a sold sign on his cage. he was my biting buddy lol he'd get all excited when he saw me and would run over just to bite my fingers.

their budgies are in a giant 5 foot x 2.5 foot x 3 foot flight. veggies, pellets, seeds, toys, cages always clean... theyre a great store i have no shame in supporting. they got a pair of lovebirds in right now, and theyre so stinking cute lol and 2 baby cockatiels, one has an attitude like tsuka...

Lovely cage. Mango looks super happy! I'm sure he'll love it.

You set it up so nice. It's like a duplex treehouse in there. I have the exact same cage that I used to use for transporting Pritti to the vet. Very sturdy and easy to clean.

Have fun.

Casey, I love the cage! And Mango look so happy in there:) What a great system for the top to close. I have got to get one of those wheels, I think that everytime I see you post pics of it:)

awww, what a little cutie! Love all the toys and such he has. :)

so i kept in the covered feed cups, one for his seed, the other for his pellets to see how he liked them. i knew they didnt prevent mess, what product really works for that after all :p but he loves them all the same. he uses them as a TABLE. he picks out his food and eats it on the top of the cover lol he loves eating that way and its hilarious watching him.

though i am still deciding on the pellet dish. he prefers his blue tube feeder for his pellets still, so i may use the other covered dish for veggies.

Every proper Mango needs a table to eat on:)

So sorry to totally bump this thread out of nowhere like this, but do birds ACTUALLY USE hamster wheels like this?!?!? I WANT ONE!! how clever! I would never have even considered this.....

^^^^ What Ann333 said!! Is it typically smaller birds that like wheels or will birds try them if they are big enough?

Mango is so cute!! and his cage looks so fun :D Great job!

Im totally getting one to try it. :) Ill let you know.

Those opening playtops are epic.

I have been adding 'double' deckers to the black one like that I have since I got it.
