Male vs female GCCs... are there big difference between genders as there is in tiels?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I am still confused whether there is a standard difference between male vs female GCCs? As there are rather HUGE differences between male and female tiels. I have a 3 yr old male tiel. I have a VERY strong preference towards male tiels vs female tiels because the male tiels sing such incredibly cute songs, are just as cuddly as female tiels (at least mine is), they bob their head and dance with me...

I would LOVE to get a GCC next year but am very confused if there are big differences between the genders... are male GCC considered to be more territorial than female GCCs? If so, then perhaps it would be SAFER for me to get a female rather than a male and lessen the chance the GCC might seriously injure my tiel?... and is the territorial issue (aggressive behavior) the ONLY main difference usually between male vs female GCCs?

Generally speaking, there isn't a huge difference between the sexes in medium sized parrots and up. Both can learn to talk, both can be cuddly. Only real things I can think of is that male cockatoos and female eclectus have the potential to be more aggressive during their hormone period than the other sex, but otherwise, no major differences except that males can't lay eggs.

Thanks, I'm super confused as some people say the oppostite of what you just told me and that I would be better off getting a female GCC rather than a male GCC because the male GCCs are more territorial and more aggressive than female GCCs?? I am very confused

I have a 3 year old male tiel and would love to get a GCC but am confused if it would be a better (SAFER) idea to get a female rather than a male GCC.... as I want to lessen the chances of there being aggression towards my tiel... so I'm hoping to get whatever gender GCC that is more likely to not be as aggressive.

GCC don't really have any gender related personality difference, same for mutations in colour. Their personality and behaviour will be more related to socializing, handling, personality of the parent birds and pot luck.
The standard behaviours people talk about is GCCs being, cuddly, clownish, quiet enough for apartment living, and energetic.
This is not always true for any bird or other animals. You might get a GCC that's noisy, or doesn't like cuddling, or even one that isn't an energizer bunny with wings.

I have no experience with teils, but GCC are wonderful so don't let this discourage you, just don't go out expecting the world. Gender doesn't matter unless you're getting/have more than one bird (personally speaking). I'll let other's chime in but I don't believe GCC are any more territorial in general then other species of bird. GCC can get chewy/beaky but that is relatively easy to keep in check with training (positive reinforcement) and proper handling.

I'm not sure why you're still confused about this, it sounds like you've already answered your own question. I don't totally agree with everyone who says there's no difference between male and female GCCs because my male is definitely a little territorial and that's to be expected of ANY male-dominated species. A male or female won't necessarily act any differently towards YOU, but they WILL act differently towards other birds. At least, this has been my experience.

I am "confused" because so many keep telling me contradictive answers. I suppose it is all a "crap shoot" depends on each individual bird.

What I am really "confused" about driving myself crazy with I cannot seem to make a decision as to get another tiel or a GCC. It is driving me crazy! I will figure it out soon hopefully. I am normally a very decisive person, but this one's got me for a loop.

I have only spent time with a family members GCC once or twice and he or she was amazing little bird so incredibly playful... but I feel my tiel would prefer to have another tiel around rather than a GCC and it would also be safer... so I am driving myself nuts trying to decide. I would LOVE to own a GCC but I think getting another tiel would be better for my tiel who HATES being alone.

If it's for you more than anything, go for what you'd want, though I'd spend sometime with some more GCC too. If you want a GCC that much would you feel bad getting a new teil?

.... Or still yearn for a gcc and end up having 3 fids, which you said you didn't want.

I wanted company for taco too and was afraid she would bond with another tiel and not 'need' me anymore. I think I made the right choice getting a gcc as our second bird. I don't worry about tiki hurting taco anymore, although I will never be completely complacent because that would be not responsible.

But I agree with others that you need to spend time with other GCC's to make sure they are right for you as they are full of energy and attitude and you might not be as lucky and get one that is bitey... Will you be willing to work with this? They can be trained out of biting but always expect the worst and you and your new fid can spend your lives together and it won't be rehomed. Having said this, my tiel bites more than my gcc.

I would much rather get a GCC than another tiel. If I got another tiel I would mostly be doing it for my tiel because he is REALLY miserable being alone and this way he could have another tiel to keep him company, even if he doesn't bond with the new tiel at least he won't be alone for when I'm not at home. Also, when I have to leave town on business he could at least have another tiel with him and all night be is terrified being alone at night, I have to keep the lights on.

So my real dilemma I'm struggling with is... do I get the GCC I WANT or do I get the tiel for my current tiel. Second, I'm still very worried the GCC might injure my tiel somehow even if they are kept in separate cages. It would be cute to have 2 tiels, but I think I would still prefer to get a GCC than another tiel.

I cannot handle 3 birds though, 2 birds is the max at this time. Sorry if I'm being repetitive. I plan to visit some GCC breeders to spend more time with GCCs to make sure I am "compatible" with them. My tiel a very nippy... he sometimes bites my hands very hard for no reason! Very often when I am giving him scritches he will suddenly turn his head and starting biting my hand very hard! He is intiminaded by hands for some weird reason, so if the GCC was a biter I would totally be used to it as I would say my tiel (even though is super tame of course and a velcro bird lol) is a big biter (it hurts!), unlike the tiels I had when I was a child

OK, I am back few minutes later... I think I'm finally making progress with the decision. I'm worried how much more "hands on" a GCC will be than a tiel??

Perhaps it would be best to get another tiel at this point in my life and then one day in the future when I can handle 3 birds I can always get a GCC I would love to have then as I will be able to focus much more on playing with birds then.... right now I am very focused on business... I would LOVE to play with birds all day long lol... but at this time I don't have that luxury.

Tiels are so incredibly laid back, my tiel is never happier than when he is sleeping on my leg or shoulder... he is always with me and does this all day long, he seems very bored though and cheers up and starts singing away whenever I play another tiel singing on youtube, he LOVES that.. I can only imagine a GCC would be CONSTANTLY running around like a "tiel on crack" or "tiel that has ants in his pants" though? lol... or am I wrong and it's not that "bad"?

But my female is the more aggressive out of the two and she can beat him up if he pushes his luck. My male will back down with people way before my female when she was in her attitude phase. My female struts around like shes a macaw when shes in a mood.

My gccs and tiels don't really bother each other. Male and female isn't going to matter neither is tiel or gcc. Tiels can injure each other. Gccs can injure each other. Tiel and gcc can injure each other. If you can't do separate out times if the birds don't get along then don't get another bird.

A gcc biting is a little different than a tiel. Tiels generally have to get you just right to inflict some nice pain but gccs will bite hold on and grind down. I've had to pry both types off my finger but gccs and conures in general just hurt...nothing compared to say when my amazon bites but still....though small birds are annoying when they bite.

I would say just get a gcc if that's what you want. The tiel is surviving just fine without another tiel around. And a tiel and gcc can complain to each other just as easily as two tiels. My female tiels hate my male tiels couldn't care less if they just disappeared one day never to be seen again. My male gcc took over a year to convince my female gcc that he wasn't an annoying pest. Same species isn't a guarantee of getting along.

Time is definitely something only you can figure out. A properly socialized conure shouldn't be driving you crazy 24/7. I have 9 birds, a horse, a cat, 2 lizards, 12 snakes...I'm finishing my MBA, volunteer, and there's a low key job in there...I'll most likely have a not so low key job in the next few months (nooooooo...I don't wannaaaa) So yeah figuring out your time and ability is completely something only you can decide.

I'm an equestrian myself (I do English Jumpers), but I sold my horse many years ago... it's so humid here in FL I cannot handle being outdoors. I will be relocating back to the EU in few yrs or back to CA. I think I need to put this decision making on hold for now before I lose my mind... I will visit some GCC breeder first... then make final decision... hopefully

I have no boyfriend and no kids (NEVER will have kids, my tiel is my baby lol)... I should be able to handle a GCC even if he/she is a little fiesty. Famous last words, gulp.

No need for a boyfriend or kids I can't stand kids and the idea of putting a kid before my own desires doesn't appeal to me at all....

My horse is no longer rideable I might be able to ride him lightly but he was diagnosed with navicular disease the other month. He has special shoes on and its helping but serious riding will probably be out of the question anymore. Looking into some shots to give him that might help too. I did hunter with him when I was younger and I had a jumper mare that I put down back in 2012 I believe was the year. I'll probably always have a horse around and I've given the vague thought to getting a cheap rideable horse but I was barely riding anymore before he came up lame. I doubt I'll have the real time or desire to put riding time into a horse for awhile! I remember riding almost everyday for at least 5 hours and thinking the old people who didn't do it anymore were strange...how the times have changed!

LOL, my thoughts exactly on the boyfriend and kids! My tiel is my boyfriend, husband and kid all in one... and it's perfect for me just like that
I used to ride every single day but I would rather die than suffer in this horrid muggy/humid climate. No time to ride I am too busy playing with my tiel and focused on business right now... and trying to make up my mind on what bird I am getting next!... and seeing how bored my tiel is he might be entertained watching a crazed GCC running around hehe... I have no idea.
