I was just wondering if there is a sorta dance that a male scarlet does to attract or impress his bond mate? If so do just males do this? Someone once told me that the male scarlets did this but is it true? My scarlet wld puff all his feathers out and kinda walk slowly dinosaur like side to side and move his head in a wierd way with his movements and he wld kinda tighten his grip on whatever hes standing on. Any one heard of this? I tried explaining it as best i could. Its better if you saw him actually do it.

My male scarlet does something similar! He does this weird humpty walk with his beak dragging along and his feathers all fluffed out. He don’t quite seem to be doing it for the females though as he seems to hate them. I noticed he only does it when I’m around as well. So I’m guessing he’s trying to intimidate me? I also can’t pet him either; I’ve had him for about a little over a month now.
And with his head movements: if I stood next to him on eye level, he nods his head up and down in a circular motion and would start mumbling a few words. I can rub his beak sometimes and feed him from my hand but I always got to keep my guard up when I’m around him.
My females do not act as such. My male Shamrock would puff himself up and nod his head back and forth but nothing like how the Scarlet do.
My scarlet is about 12 years old and he was with another scarlet that passed away a few years ago. So maybe being lonely for the past few years affected him?

Hmm I've had mine for about 3 or 4 yrs and hes is 8 or 7 now. When i first got him he feel in love with me lol and would scream whenever i left the room. It was bad but i broke hIm of that. For me to be able to hold him i have to have his chew wood with me so he wont bite. But when ever i have that wood with me i can basically do almost anything i want with him. He will still let me touch him without the wood but i think the wood is like his comfort and it makes him more comfortable with it around. But he had done this wierd dance thing a while back and he did it while i had him on my arm in my lap and he would do this puff feathered dance while he moved dino like from one arm to the other. I asked someone about it once and she had told me that it was a sign of affection that he was trying to maybe bond with me Or something. But he didn't try to attack me Or anything. He actually did it a week ago. But my scarlet has warmed up to me alot since i had him. He doesn't like certain members in my family tho and will throw his wings up in warning when they enter the room. You will just have to work with him and show him that you wont hurt him. Ppl say to sit by the cage and talk to him and stuff Idk. Im sure he will warm up to you eventually.

Something like this usually works.

Hm, it sounds a bit like what my male Pionus does when he is upset with me. I at first thought it was cute (actually, it IS cute, unless you know the intention) until he followed it with a lunge after just doing the puffing and swaying for a long time.

My scarlet when he does this he is content and happy and then he will just do y and it is cute and he looks beautiful while doing it. I dont think what my scarlet is doing is a result of aggression bc he shows absolutely no sign of aggression before or after he does this. Its wierd tho
