I got a 5 year old male Caique a little less than a week ago, and things have slowly been going well as he accustoms to me and his environment. However, one behaviour he has had from day one has been him swinging his head with his mouth open after eating, giving me a specific whistle, and then shaking his open beak on my finger.
I assumed this was crop adjustment which I read about, but have since found out that it's not and this he is in fact trying (and failing) to regurgitate on me. I've read that this is courtship behaviour and that enabling it isn't recommended. Am I understanding the situation correctly, and how bad is the fact I let him do this for the past few days? How can I make clear to him that I am not to be courted?
