(better photo pending.)
hello all ! i am in need of re-homing an un-tame black-headed caique. he is an ex-breeder bird.
while he has the typical mentality of most caiques— territorial, aggressive— i believe he has the potential to be worked with in the right environment. he has shown a positive/maybe somewhat aggressive whistling reaction when i whistle to him, and will excitedly rub his beak against the cage bars in a happy sort of way between bouts of lunging.
he has also on occasion very cautiously taken a treat from my hand when he isn't lunging at me to remove my fingers.
i cannot vouch for the quality of his health, only that he is energetic and there is nothing i've perceived as off about him. his beak is overgrown and will need either hand trimming, or some toys to destroy. (although at it's current length, hand trimming would probably be more likely.) it does not hinder his ability to eat or move about the cage, but it is still much longer than it should be and will reach that point soon.
he is not on a good diet and will need weaning.
he is 6+ years old. i'm not able to get close enough to his band to tell for certain his age. he does not have a name as he did not come with one sadly. :^ ( i've been calling him spicy boy.
while i'd prefer to place him with a rehoming fee of $200 to offset the costs of buying him, for the right home this can be adjusted or waived altogether. he is not available for another 1-3 weeks as he is currently being quarantined outside of home.
he really needs an experienced home because of his behavior and aggression. if you have the patience and ability to work with him, i really believe spicy boy can come around. at this time, he's not a good fit for my home, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve the chance.
i live on the south shore of MA and need for him an experienced home. as i'm new on the forum, i cannot receive pms i don't believe, but will try to reply back in this thread promptly.
