Oh my Mac is a lucky bird. You have a fantastic birdie play pen/area. I bet he has so much fun. How did you come up with this idea?

Wow that is awesome, I don't have that much space to dedicate. What kind of rope is that and where did you get it? That's one lucky bird!

Kind of hit or miss over the past year. We built the PVC perch/play stand but he would be down running across the floor in about 30 seconds.

He liked the old rope/wood perch we had but it limited his play area.

The place we bought him had a similar area for their birds but they used concrete blocks for the enclosure.

The rope is actually a large hanging bird gym like shown in the link below.

I believe the rope is called Sisal.

Mac is getting more used to the new area. He is venturing down to the floor now.

I think it will work out well!

Can I ask a silly question? Do birds ever get tangled up in the ropes like that? I am asking because I am thinking of buying one of those cargo nets but they concern me just a bit.....any input?

nah ~~ never seen them get tangled up before ~~ they are smart birds ~~ haha.
anyway awesome stuff you got there azdesertrhino and that's one lucky bird too ^^

Mac doesn't get tangled up and if any of it is where he doesn't like it, he just chews through it.

I'm going to have to order some rope this evening for remodel & repairs!

Hi Eva... just so you know, this thread is basically 4 years old. It looks like it MDF wood that you can buy at Home Depot, though.

I read an awful experience about the rope net with a small parrot. The little one got his head caught in one of the knots and hung himself. My FIDS are of medium and large size, and I was considering one for the bird room, but decided against it. They do look fun.

The walls are a black polycarbonate. The outside corners are aluminum and and all other hardware is stainless steel. If I had it to do over again I would make from a clear polycarbonate. Mac really doesn't go to the floor much because he can't see his surroundings.

I've been using sissal cargo nets for 15 years without a single incident. My birds really do love them. I highly recommend them.

This play area really turned out nice. Like the king of the play stand flapping shot. You can tell he's happy!

Ive got loads of cargo nets I made myself so its easy to adjust the spacings to what ever size is good for your parrot :)
