Macaw fight (unintentional and not wanted)

Let me preface this by saying that I've been trying to socialize these guys bit by bit. Sometimes they kind of get along (well, to a point), other times all bets are off. In this case I was shooting video of what I'd hoped would be an amicable interaction between them. But what I'd forgotten is that there were some salt-free cashews I'd left in the crock on the t-stand Zaf was standing on. My fault! Salsa decided he wanted a cashew and you'll see how Zaf responded. Don't worry, no one was injured.

Uh oh, looks like Zaf is a hog! This is the way I picture Zaf thinking,"whats mine is mine, especially if it belongs to someone else". Lol

Well, all things considered they're really just big feathered babies. Granted, though, they're big feathered babies with seriously pointed and crushingly powerful tools built in to their faces. But they're quite sweet-natured when it comes to their attitudes toward people.

In this particular case it doesn't help much that these two are fairly jealous for my attention. It's an ongoing rivalry kinda thing.

Oh geez, can I relate to that That's ReaRea and Miri all over again. :54: ReaRea is just SO laid back of the 2 and she lets Miri get away with a LOT, but oh MAN when the queen has had enough, look out!! Gotta admit though, when I have to intervene I am usually listened to, most of the time all I gotta do is say Miri's name and point my finger at her and she cools it. I would NEVER want ReaRea mad at me, when she gets "fed up", the "Queen" thing kicks in.

Yep, I can easily believe that! While Zaf is a lovey, cuddly and snuggly best friend who has never shown aggression toward me, I wouldn't want to be on Salsa's bad side... er wait, I guess I already HAVE been Three days after he arrived here he mangled my right hand a bit. I can't blame him at all though considering what he'd just been through and that he hadn't been here nearly long enough to have developed much trust in me. Although bold at times, he's a pretty sweet bird now. We sit on the couch together and watch tv...he's either perched on my forearm, my knee, or beside me on the armrest.

Yeah, he's a little hormonal I think. But his desire for cashews became his priority and that's why he climbed onto the crock (so he could try and take control of the cashews). It was Salsa's climbing onto the crock that triggered Zaf's full battle mode. At least that's my assessment of the incident.

I just watched it again and I don't think that's what he said. Whatever it was it sounded to be a single syllable and he repeated it after a short pause. It was clearly in response to Zaf's initial aggression though. Salsa often surprises me and says words and phrases I have never heard from him before, but he also says things at times that really aren't words and appear made up. This may have been one of those impulsively made up utterances. I'm not entirely sure though.

She need not worry... all is well Plus, as you can see, Zaf is certainly one to defend himself - even when a big tank like Salsa is coming at him. In fact, I think Zaf is the one who got most of the serious pecks in. I'll be sure not to let an incident like that happen again, though.

I love when your hyacinth pecks your green wing on the head and the green wing makes that angry noise, they remind me of two kids fighting over a toy haha
