2 Indian Ringnecks, Tiki (DH's) and Pippin (mine), 1 lovebird, Gemma (DD's) and 1 in birdy Heaven... RIP, Wilbur.
My daughters lovebird is in love with a toy I purchased for her... a toy budgie that makes budgie noises. She gets very happy and chats back to it, and just really enjoys its "company".

My daughter is thinking that Gemma might like a friend. She was best friend with my GCC, Wilbur, who died a couple of years ago. They were SO attached, and Gemma has not been as happy since Wilbur died :(

She is thinking about buying a real budgie (and a second cage, obviously... she won't put them together, so no worries there). Has anyone here had both budgies and lovies? What were your experiences? I know every bird is different, but it's nice to hear how it worked, or didn't, from others.

Oh no, not a good idea! Lovies are much bigger and can hurt or even kill the budgie. Although one of my budgies had a crush on my lovie a while ago, and they still get along very well and mate occasionally, but that's an exception. They came together as babies from the same home. If you house them separately and let out supervised it could be okay, but still dangerous. Lovies like to bite other birds feet and can do that very quickly even when you are there.

Veirmar's 100% right on those toe biters! Luckily for me, I think i have like the slowest moving lovebird and it only happens on his cage, so he can only visit them. on top of that, before letting all of them out, they were able to accustom into each other's presence in a 3 month span. Even still, I'm always right next to them and prepared to move them.
