I have 2 Alex's and am having an enjoyable freezing cold morning watching as my Male takes bites of food and then a few treats and enters the nest box to feed his lady. His lady absolutely loves carrots and my male Hates them! BUT I see he is happy to eat those carrots and take her what she likes to eat into the nest. Its lovely to watch how much they care for one another! We have 2 eggs in the nest ( that I know of), She wont move over or leave the nest so I can see. She hasnt left the nest for several days ( when I am home and in the same room). However I have a camera on her cage and watch it - I believe she is leaving the nest at night or in the day while I am gone. I did put the camera at the top of the nest peering inside and she looks ok. She laid the last egg on Jan.26. I dont want to candle the eggs this time, I think thats what has made her stay in the nest this year. I candled the eggs last year and she was pretty mad at me for a month. So, I will let her be a good momma and take care of her eggs unless she begins to look bad or unhealthy- then its to the vet!

That is so sweet! He eats her favorite food so he can feed it to her! What a good boy!
When my budgies were incubating eggs and newly hatched chicks the mama bird would only leave the nest box to go potty and it was so fast I only knew it because she would hold her droppings and let out a huge load at one in a particular spot each time. Her mate ate for two, so he consumed more food (homemade chop) all day than I thought possible for a little budgie. Once the chicks hatched he ate for the whole family until the chicks were covered in down and could keep themselves warm. Only then did the mama begin to leave the box for long stretches of time. I was amazed at what good parents these budgies were and they were less than a year old themselves.
