On Long Island Craigslist I found a very recent add from a family that has just lost their Hahn's Macaw, named Mikey. he's a chest plucker and hates hats. I gaave the family this website and suggested they join, because you folks have more lost parrot info sites then anyone.

Try tohelp them guys, I have faith in the forrums

Have you been out with Salty? If Salty makes some noise and Mikey is still in the area he may be drawn to you?

Hope he finds his way back home.

LOL, despite what most folks think, Long Island is 120 miles long and some 20-25 miles wide. Taking Salty out to scream his little fool head off is not going to attract anything except my neighbors ire. Mikey was lost some 35 or so miles from my house.

What I was hoping for was maybe a Supermod contacting this distraught famility with the list of lost parrot resources. This poor Hahns looks to be an older one, and he has picked his chest bare, so time is certainly a factor before nite temps start to dip into the 40s and lower.

THanks folks, I know how I would feel if I lost Salty or how you would feel if you lost a family member.

AL and Salty

911 Parrotalert on facebook is one I normally see.

Of course I assume they've gone round the vets within a few miles and contacting any pet shops would be good too. essentially throwing out as big a net as possible to get people looking out for him

I tried, Al, but perhaps don't know what to do with that email address?

Attempted to send as a personal email using the above as email address
Pasted the link to my browser
Went to craigslist.org and pasted it to the search function

Nothing worked! I've never used Craigslist; can you guide me to make contact with this family?

Yes I second the 911 Parrot Alert on Facebook. It's a very active group with people from all over the country.

Sorry Al, cracking up reading your post, yes a very long walk and poor Salty would be hoarse. I didnt realise that you live on very long island LOL.

Thanks for what you are doing to help get this fella home.

Give salty a megaphone! A scream through that should alert the whole state!

Hi Al, I'm the owner of the lost bird Mickey...we are heartbroken. He flew out my door in East Moriches on August 13. He was last spotted in East Moriches 2 miles away about 2 weeks ago.

We adopted him 1 1/2 years ago ....he was a picker when I got him. His original owner of 10 years could not keep him and he was put in an agricultural schoolroom in the Bronx with a classroom full of kids, that's when the picking started.

We always thought Mickey was a boy because he always liked me better than my husband. Then HE started laying eggs for the first time ever! So he is a she and now she took a flight on the wild side.

We love her like our own kid...she says HI MIKE (my husband), i wanna come out, what ya talking about, want some?, come up, come out, what?? Laughs and laughs. Likes an occasional cracker and would come to someone if offered.

She's not banded OR chipped

I could not eat or sleep for days....we still ride around looking. I called the vets, shelters, hung fliers, Petco, small pet shops....shes all over FB community pages...I need to expand my reach. I followed the protocol from 911 Parrot Alert, played her calls through an amplifier. I don't know what to do because it's gonna get cold soon.

Thank you for caring, Al...it means so much.

Welcome to the forums, Lauren and Michael. Deeply wish your joining was under happier circumstances.

A "sticky thread" near top of the Lost and Found forum has some excellent ideas to help safely retrieved a lost bird. Many members have shared stories, some with miraculous endings. Anxiously awaiting some good news of Mikey's retrun home.
