If anyone has seen my sun conure, about 6-7 months old, she flew out of the balcony in Maryland. She’s just a baby and got very curious with the outside world. Please let me know if anyone finds a bird with a history of being lost in Maryland (US).

Oh @Sera, I'm very sorry to hear your conure has got away!! Below are a few resources that may help you. I highly recommend that you list her on the Parrot Alert website, if you have already not done so. You can also check them for "found" birds in your area, in case she's been found and listed already. A number of our members have been successfully reunited with lost birds through that service ...

It's also good to advise local animal control and all vet clinics in your vicinity, not just avian specialists, as lost birds are often found and handed in. You can also post on local Facebook community groups for lost pets and/or birds, and do an old fashioned letter-box drop with paper flyers. I did just that years ago when I lost an Indian Ringneck and it resulted in him being returned to me on the very same day.

I hope something of this is of help to you, and that your little one is safely returned home very soon!! 🙏 🙏 🙏

Thank you for the tips, but I tried all these and contacted both my local shelters and vets are o see if anyone brought a sun conure by that month. On 911 parrot alert I saw a report for a found sun conure lost the SAME day in a nearby state and it was a baby too and I was so sure it was was mine. Even though the longer I looked at the photo the more I realized it’s not my bird. I cried seeing another poor baby bird, it looked so tired. Wish someone could find mine too, she used to stick to me like velcro, couldn’t even use the bathroom alone and now I have to do all my work everyday tasks alone

It’s worse since I read a few posts on what to do after but almost a week has passed, a lot of the tips depend on the timing and I know I messed up and could’ve done better. Also the leaving the cage out is such a good idea, theres this one tree she came by three times when I went to go retrieve her, but I live in an apartment and someone would steal it if I left it out there. I kept it out on the balcony with food in it, but they all look the same and ours is located in the back, not front, so her finding it is pretty low.

It must be so hard to keep up hope, but birds are often returned after weeks, months or even longer away. There's a notorious escape artist IRN in the city where I live who was actually gone for a few years. Someone found her and decided to keep her but she got away on them, ended up at my bird vet's office where they knew her and they reunited her with her rightful family. So I will be hoping for the same for your baby - only that you are reunited much more quickly!
