Lorikeet Attacked me!!! HELP!

Mikey,

Yes, that's what we think it was - the constant biting nonstop... the hawk actually couldn't get lift and landed a few feet away to get a better grip, and that's when Woody made his escape... he had all his wits about him, and flew directly into the patio and underneath the large gas barbecue. The hawk just took off - probably figuring that feisty red bird was not worth the effort.

Well I wasn't planning on getting one anyway, but I defiently won't now lol I don't want a pet I have to step on eggshells around lol defiently not a lori-person, no offense to those that love them and have them, its just not for me.
The females are much sweeter temperment and in our case with our chattering lory, Sweet Pea, do not randomly attack us. The charm about lories and lorikeets is their immense love of fun. They play like puppies. Ours even tosses hacky sacks back and forth to us, calling out "get it, go get it" when she tosses one to us. If I don't get it right away and toss it back to her, she says "get it over there, over there"... as if to tell me it's right over there. She's a hoot! :D

well I wouldnt have been so excited to take him in had I known it was gonna be like this! But even though he randomly attacks me!!! I do love him very much I cant help it! and he is the funniest bird Ive ever owned I love playing with him and watching him play with anything he finds!!!

My first lory, Woody loved playing with caps. When we would finish with a bottle of something, we would wash the cap and give it to him to play with. He soon got an assortment of different size caps and would amuse himself endlessly by putting all the smaller caps into the bigger caps, then he'd pick up the biggest cap that all the smaller caps were in and toss it all up in the air, scattering them about... and begin the game again of gathering them up and putting them into each other.

that is the cutest thing ever!!!!

Malachai loves to play soccer. He throws and kicks his plastic toy balls around. Or he'll lay on his back rolling the toys with his feet. They're super amusing birds to own!!!

Mikey,

Have you thought of getting Malachai a couple of hacky sacks - I'm sure he'd have a blast. Sweet Pea started with the plastic balls that have bells inside, but when we introduced the hacky sacks, she all but ignores the plastic balls when playing on the floor. I do have a couple of the plastic balls hanging from plastic chains in her cage and she hangs on them quite a bit, attacking the balls.

You're so right - these little birds are very amusing. I like to call my lory an entertainment system wrapped in feathers! She vibrates her tongue making a cute little noise. I could never do that before, but listening to her, I started trying it and eventually got to where now I can do it too.
