Looking to adopt a greenwing or other macaw

Hi I lost my macaw to kidney failure in November 2017. I tried to adopt from three rescues but they thought I should let my bird fly loose all over the house. They also didn't like the fact that my Dobie is encaged in a large encloser due to her bladder issues and dog aggression. All my animals are treated so well. The rescues have strange ideas...anyway I have four dogs and they are all well cared for. I have an African Grey now. I'd love to add a new older Greenwing that needed a new home. I live in CT.
I'm moving at the end of March so the adoption wouldn't be best until later in the spring.If you know of such a bird that needs a loving home please contact me. I have a 5'x5'x6'cage and can provide nutritious foods as well as lots of attention and out of cage time.

Well, why don’t you want your bird to fly loose around the house? Are you planning to clip your new bird’s wings? The idea of owning a flighted bird isn’t a “strange idea”.

bit of confusion here. Are you saying they told you never to have a bird cage or do you find it strange to let a bird out of its cage ever? Sorry just a little confusion over the syntax.

Since the OP is saying they'd provide a bird with "lots of attention and out of cage time" and sounds to be an experienced and caring large parrot owner, I'm not thinking it's an issue of them wanting to keep the bird caged all the time. Unless things have changed drastically since we adopted Kiwi, most shelters seem to let the clipping issue be the new owners decision. If shelters didn't adopt out to people who couldn't allow a bird to be free roaming or who chose to clip, they'd never adopt out any birds.

OP- Given the setup you describe and your experience with large parrots, it sounds like the shelters are making excuses for something else besides the amount of out of cage time the bird would have/it being clipped. You say your dog, who is an aggressive breed, has aggression issues and must be kept kenneled in part due to these issues. This would be a HUGE red flag to me if I was in charge of placing needy rescue birds in safe homes. I would hope whatever housing solution you have for the dog would protect a bird but perhaps the shelters have not felt the same confidence in the setup? Is this perhaps these shelters 'way of saying' they don't believe your home would be safe for a parrot due to the aggressive dog without actually coming out and saying it? I'm sure as operators of an animal rescue they probably sympathize with you taking on an aggressive dog and might not want to offend because all animals deserve loving homes. Can't be sure of course, but the dog is the only glaring red flag I see in your post.
