I found a 7yr old budgie named Lulu on Petfinder, and I'm looking into getting her! She was surrendered when her owners no longer wanted her because she was old and has hormonal imbalances that deform her cere. I really want to take her in and give her the best final moments a budgie could ever have.

I would not be able to resist, either.
Same! I really, REALLY hope our application gets approved, but it might not, since I'm a minor and will be taking care of her :(

She's at a rescue?

I hope you get her, but if not at least you know they will make sure she goes to a good home.

Actually, I'm glad her owners even had the decency to do that....most budgies get realeased, given to pet shops, or put on craigslist

Yeah, but I really hope I get her so she can experience her last months/years at the fullest (free roam 24/7, aviary, etc.)

She's just in a small cage right now, on an all-pellet diet (I know it could be worse, but she still deserves WAY more).

I really hope you do end up having her under your care! A budgies life is still quite long if given good care and you could potentially give her a great last couple of years of her life while she’s still here.

It would be very noble of you if you could give her that extra care!

I have to admit, taking in a rescue (sick) budgie sure is tough and has it's huge disadvantages :(
I get so attached to the little floofs in such a short time, I am not sure if I can go through more heartaches anymore...

Same here, I've lost many a bird, but I keep rescuing because (in my opinion) not rescuing birds in need because you're afraid you'll lose them is kinda selfish. Sure, you'll be super sad and depressed when they're gone, but they'll have lived the best life possible with you, instead of being in a bad situation!

Edit: That sounded a bit rude, didn't mean to word it that way. See my response to Skars post to see what I really meant!

Same here, and who knows, she could live up to 15 years!

That sounds a bit off, but I get your point.

I did rescue from immenent situations, spent money i didn't have at the time on vet and meds, my heart and time to curing back only to make sure the bird goes to a better home or flock. And I would do it again. But sometimes we aren't able. It is not selfish if I decide not to because it takes too great toll on my mental health to the point i fumble and am unable to help self or my current birds.

Yeah, wasn't sure how to word it....
Basically I meant it doesn't make sense not to get a bird you love and want to care for simply because you fear your heart getting broken when it passes, but if you can't deal with that, it's fine, I'm not gonna call you a bad person.

No harm done!

I realized i missed a few words to make it clearer :B

But in general, rescuing birds is a big thing and a big responsibility... Kudos to those who do it!

LuLu is apparently at PetSmart now. I'm shaky with fear that she's gonna be adopted by someone who will keep her alone in a small cage her whole life. I don't know why the rescue would be so irresponsible.

a valid fear
All we can do is keep educating and encouraging.
Budgies are very active, their small size should not mean a small cage
Welp, it's not like the rescue would listen to a 13yr old...
I'm having a mini panic attack
