I have one White-winged parakeet
Hello.. As the title says I need a new home for my 3~ year old baby, a white winged parakeet (aka canary-winged parakeet). Iā€™m very ashamed of the way he is being treated currently, and I hope you guys will understand that Iā€™ve been trying my best, even though it probably doesnā€™t seem like it. Iā€™m going to be very vulnerable in this post, so I hope that someone can reach out.

A couple years ago, I fell in love with this little green parakeet at the pet store. I had always wanted a bird and this poor little guy was being housed with a bonded pair of green-cheeked conures, who were bullying him. His wings were also clipped. I ended up convincing my parents to let me get him. I actually did do

most of my research. For the first two or so years everything was great. He was getting out just about every day, and he was getting fresh fruits and vegetables every morning along with his dry food. I never clipped his wings, but because he was so young when the pet store clipped his wings, I suspect he never learned to fly. He only flies when heā€™s startled and usually crashes into things when he does. Heā€™s just the sweetest little thing, and never wants to be anywhere except on my shoulder.

As for why Iā€™m rehoming him.. Iā€™ve always had issues with depression, but as Iā€™ve gotten older, Iā€™ve also developed bipolar disorder, which has made it extremely difficult to keep up with everything he needs from me, along with high school and just life in general. This is the part thatā€™s hardest for me to get out, but he hasnā€™t been out of his cage in several weeks/months, and his cage very badly needs to be cleaned. He doesnā€™t ever get fruits or vegetables any more, and only gets dry food. Iā€™m so ashamed with the way he is living and I would do anything for him to be happy. I love him so much and itā€™s so hard for me to watch him suffer. I know it probably doesnā€™t make sense to someone who doesnā€™t have the same issues as me, but I promise Iā€™m trying.. Itā€™s just so stressful and Iā€™ve been trying to find a shelter to take him for months and no one can. So Iā€™m trying here.

He has a bit of a biting problem, but never bites hard, and is territorial around his cage and favorite foods. Other than that I canā€™t think of any other issues he might have, aside from his flight. Obviously he may have developed some others due to being neglected, though. Iā€™m in the Austin area, but am willing to drive/maybe pay for a plane ticket if someone can help us. I will be trying my best to screen people, because I donā€™t want him to end up in this situation again. Thank you for reading.

Here are some of my favorite pictures of him.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. This is one of the most difficult decisions to make. Hopefully, someone can help you out.

Note- poster is in the Austin Tx area.

I would take him in a heartbeat if we were close, canary wing parrots are easily one of the best and most friendly birds one will ever meet. Our Max was just incredible and we miss him all the time. I wish you good luck in finding him a loving new home.

Hi I didn't know about we're not allowed to share person contact I responded to two people looking to re home like I explained to two conures lady I would like to talk with I want to adopt because I don't want to buy a bird from a breeder just looking to make money an they over produce just to make money same with pet stores . I believe in second or third an so on chances, I adopted a grey hound from the tracks years ago he would have been put down because he didn't perform well enough anymore on the Florida tracks so I gave him the best retirement I could an he lived out rest of his days laying in his pool an doing donuts in my yard lived to run any who so if u could relay the messages or let us talk I would appreciate it I just want to save a bird or two an give it the best life I can. I inherited my mother's white faced Amazon I grew up with cockatiels cockatoos , an I know there are allot of parrots that need homes, people dnt realize how long they live an some just dnt like how loud they are an didn't realize what they were getting into. So what do I do next?
