I have been looking around for another Grey to give my Picasso a playmate. I had a few questions before I committed to one. Will I need a separate cage for each one or can they both stay in the same cage. I don't want them fighting with each other and I wasn't sure if that is what they would do. I have only ever had this one CAG and have never introduced him to another one. His former owner said that he used to have a mate but she sadly died before because they forgot she was in the outside aviary and it got too cold. Any help with this question would be much appreciated.

On another note I just wanted to say that this forum is a great resource for myself and probably many others. The prompt and intelligent answers are a life saver. As I try to research things and learn more I will attempt to try to help others out.

P.S. - When I get back from Afghanistan I will get more pictures and videos of my Picasso on here.

Definitely get a second cage, even birds who enjoy each others company still need separate cages.

If you have the time or budget you can make/buy a large aviary they can be in together outside, a properly sized aviary will allow them to have their own space but still interact and they'll still have their own inside cages. I wouldn't leave them alone together for half a year to a year before leaving them alone together though.

Thanks for serving! Come home Safe, from a retired AF officer.:42:

If you can, get one of the "split" cages, that has a removable partition. They can be as affordable as getting another single cage. They also save space, but give your guys plenty of room.

Also, make sure you have a quarentine cage, just in case. :grey::grey:

If they're not caged, they can make their own rules of engagement. Our two sleep wing to wing on a perch in an open cage we cover after dark.

The only time we lock the night cage is when in a motel room, like this:

About the only time she cries is when he is out of sight.

I can get a second cage pretty cheap and I was looking at the split ones. As for the split cages, is it better to have a side by side split or a top and bottom split. I would think that a side by side would be better so they can still see each other when the partition is in. We lock our night cage because my wife has a cat and while in there cages they terrorize it but I think the other way around would not be so good in their favor.

IMHO Side-by-Side. I believe that height is a sign of dominance. Our Greys tended to be afraid of anything that was over their head, even the tray to the playpen.

Good call. I will look for a side by side that is not too expensive. I have a little bit before I will be serious about getting my second CAG.
