THE TIKI BIRD HOUSE - Home/About Us

I'm talking to the owner now, she had a listing up on craigslist..

Might be putting in a deposit soon ^.^

Her response to my inquiry about her Parrotlets!
I enjoyed seeing your beautiful birds. Thanks for sharing :) I've been raising Parrotlets and other birds since the early 90's. I've worked at San Diego Zoo and San Antonio Zoo now for 16 years combined in the bird departments. I love my birds, can't get enough!! I do have a few of the female blue/split to white left. They are young, but definitely not tame. Here's my website if you would like to see the list...it needs a little updating. I will try to do that today. Yes, pet shops are a bit risky and way overpriced usually. It's nice to find a reputable breeder who is local and whom you can visit and see where your pet has been housed. I will always take the birds back...no questions asked...with full money back guarantee. I just want to make sure they are well-cared for and the people who buy them are happy with them as well.

Wow, she sounds lovely! It's so nice to find a breeder who is obviously in it for the birds, not the money! :)

Exactly!

I was after one of her untame parrotlets at first... but I think I'm going to wait and let her raise one for me :3

The plan in mind is to have everything set up and ready by January!

Bounces! I'm putting down a Deposit on a Parrotlet next month.

I'll have my baby by the end of May!

Purposefully stalling it as I have a vacation to take in May.. heh xP

I KNOW!

I'll prolly get a Linnie from her when I get a house in a year or two.. heehee.

And she's so close its absolutely aaaaweesome. I'm bouncing like crazy over here.

Maybe Im just extra paranoid but all the reputable breeders I know do NOT take their babies back, that's a way to open up yourself to all sorts of problems unless she disease tests all birds before welcoming them back into her aviary.

Taking a bird back doesn't mean putting them back in the aviary. It's no different than when you get a new bird. They have to be quarantined.

A good breeder will take back an unwanted bird because they don't want something bad to happen to the bird. That doesn't mean they will refund you, but they will often take them back and rehome them.

Not around here they don't, they will help you find a new home, but they wont take them back into theirs. A friend of mine agreed to take one of her Macs back but it had to be quarantined at somebody elses place until all the testing came back negative.
