I got Lola (umbrella cockatoo) about 6 months ago. Her former parents did a wonderful job raising her. She is friendly, but at 8 years old is starting to squack and not listen. She's a very good girl, and I want to keep it that way! Thanks in advance for your advice! Mady
PS how do you post photos?

Welcome Mady! Too's are Beautiful. Hope you figure out how to post pictures soon :)

Welcome to the forum Mady and U2 Lola!!! So happy you could join us. It sounds like Lola is a happy well-adjusted girl. You are right to help her remain a friendly family member. It's wonderful Lola's first family loved her and took good care of her during her first years. She's been with you for six months so she's probably feeling secure enough to test her boundaries and see what she can get by with. I've found distraction works well with toos, they appreciate entertainment. My too likes TV and music but he's picky about content. He gets really excited about Rio and Shrek, noise, music and drama. Be creative, most of the time you can find something your too would enjoy more than destroying your eardrums. Sometimes they just like the sound of their own incredible voices. Do you know Lola well enough to know when she normally makes the most noise, if so, before she gets carried away, make acceptable noises, whistles, songs, words, toos like to play with their humans and most can't resist getting in on noisy games. One of Popeye's favorite toys is a toy guitar that plays children's songs. He will hit the buttons and play the ABC's over and over and over. It has two channels, I change it to music every day and he changes it back to ABC's. He likes to untie knots in leather strips too. His absolute favorite toy is any kind of shreddable foraging toy, the messier the better. Soft wood is another favorite. Looking forward to Lola's photos.

Hi Mady and Lola. When I first got Houdini, he did the same thing. The couple I got him from warned me that "he's a screamer". I realized that was the only way he was getting attention before I got him. A screech at times is normal, but if he kept it up, I would totally ignore him and started leaving the room completely. He finally caught on that nobody will talk or play with him or give him treats if he screams like a banshee LOL. It's really hard at first to totally ignore them, but keep it up...it will eventually work.:white1::white1:
