RIP "pineapple" lovebird
I am going to be away for two nights and my friend always stays at my house and takes care of the horses cats dogs and birds.
When I had Sydney it was pretty easy because he wasn't a very friendly bird to begin with. Being handled was on his terms only so for short trips she didn't handle him or even need to do much besides feed and water him.
Now these two are a different story
She's an animal lover and used to work for a local vet practice that does see exotics so I trust her with any of my animals (even my difficult 10 year old tb race horse who at best is a jerk).
I had her stop by yesterday so she could meet them and I could show her the routine and where everything is. I asked Loki to step up and brought him out while we discussed and wandered. Normally he scurries up my arm to my shoulder (I allow this with him as he does not go for my ears and is extremely happy to ride around and hang out whatever I am doing he holds on when I bend down or whatever). He was so tense he stayed right on my hand while watching her intently. After a few minutes of her talking and him watching she asked him to step up to her hand. Brave little boy he is and did as she asked. Then he stayed still like a statue for the next ten minutes. Poor little guy but he was so good.
Afterwards I tried to show her how he plays in the sink when I am washing their bowls but he was so discombobulated he wouldn't. Poor little guy.
They'll be fine while I'm gone and Becca will probably become their best friend. I swear my cats and dogs like their auntie better than me sometimes.
