RIP "pineapple" lovebird
I am going to be away for two nights and my friend always stays at my house and takes care of the horses cats dogs and birds.
When I had Sydney it was pretty easy because he wasn't a very friendly bird to begin with. Being handled was on his terms only so for short trips she didn't handle him or even need to do much besides feed and water him.
Now these two are a different story :)
She's an animal lover and used to work for a local vet practice that does see exotics so I trust her with any of my animals (even my difficult 10 year old tb race horse who at best is a jerk).
I had her stop by yesterday so she could meet them and I could show her the routine and where everything is. I asked Loki to step up and brought him out while we discussed and wandered. Normally he scurries up my arm to my shoulder (I allow this with him as he does not go for my ears and is extremely happy to ride around and hang out whatever I am doing he holds on when I bend down or whatever). He was so tense he stayed right on my hand while watching her intently. After a few minutes of her talking and him watching she asked him to step up to her hand. Brave little boy he is and did as she asked. Then he stayed still like a statue for the next ten minutes. Poor little guy but he was so good.
Afterwards I tried to show her how he plays in the sink when I am washing their bowls but he was so discombobulated he wouldn't. Poor little guy.

They'll be fine while I'm gone and Becca will probably become their best friend. I swear my cats and dogs like their auntie better than me sometimes. :)

Way to go, Loki!! :D Too funny how you describe that he was as stiff as a board, HAHAHAH. I think it's GREAT that he stepped up on Becca though! How will she be with Chiqui? Was she equally receptive?

Have fun while you're gone, and what a relief it must be for you to know your babies are so well taken care of. :)

Chiqui doesn't have a "step up" installed just yet. Lol. She steps on to your arm and I've been working with her target training but I am not very confident that she won't get just generally into trouble with me not home. :)
So I'm on the fence whether to have Becca open her cage or just to play it safe while I'm gone. I think Becca is coming back tonight so we may experiment a little.
Chiqui was very receptive to her and took a treat from her without hesitation. Becca is similar to me and speaks very calmly and soothing. She did clam up though. Lol.

It is a huge relief. My mom makes her care packages and mails them. And let's just say her Christmas gift was almost as nice as mine. :)

And you should have seen lokis expression while on her hand. It was priceless.
She was walking as slowly as she could because he was just sitting there clearly saying "I'm doing this because it's what is expected of me but omg who IS THIS?" Lol

Yayyy Loki, what a good birdie! I'm so glad you have a completely trustworthy sitter to come to your home while you're away! Enjoy your trip, it sounds like Becca will have fun with your gang.

She came again and we experimented with Chiqui who is totally unfazed by Becca! She's actually very interested in her! Kept going to her and being very sweet even let her scratch her head.

 WOW!!! That's remarkable!! Becca must be a bird person, and not even know it (just yet). :D

What a good girl your Chiqui is!!!!

Becca is just an animal person lol.
Both of my fids were so brave! Even pineapple kept trying to sneak curiosity (until you make eye contact with him lol)
