Hi,
We got our African grey on Monday night.
He was playful, cuddly and calm. Yesterday morning he was playful, cuddly and calm. But last night after being alone for a few hours and this morning he is being incredibly noisy, constant calling even when he is out and with us. We are trying positive reinforcement but he isnt quiet long enough for us to do this, can you give us any tips, we don't want to accidentally reinforce bad behaviour. With previous birds we always paused the telly or walked out the room but this never seemed to work. We don't think it's attention, because when he gets it he still calls. Also he has been trying to climb on our heads and shoulders but we always take him down immediately.

Some parrots tells their owner how they feels, what they want and dont want by screaming. But most of the time, they are trying to get your attention. Even when the parrot is with you, they still might screaming because they wants you to see what they are doing.

When he screams, don't tell him to be quite, don't talk to him, sometimes don't even make eye contact with him. Just ignore the call, and if you need to, walk out of the room. Your grey is most likely trying to get your attention by screaming.

When he stops screaming, reward him for being quiet, most of the times, parrot will soon learn that 'quiet = treats'.

And teach your parrot to talk, most of the time it will help stop the parrot from screaming a little bit. I would much rather have a talking parrot than a screaming one.
