I suffer rather badly from S.A.D. (seasonal affective disorder) in autumn/winter/spring on top of my normal depression and its really not fun. Last year my parents got me a lightbox for my birthday. I have the Beurer TL60 lightbox and its specs are: Luminous intensity > 10,000 lux, Color temperature of fluorescent lamps: 6,500 Kelvin.
Can anyone help me understand how safe this is to use around my alexandrine parrot? My work desk, where id be using the light, is right beside his cage; if I have it on the side of the desk away from him, would that still be too bright? Should I use it in another room? Or might it actually be helpful to get him through our dark winter as well? I find I often leave it on for several hours a day (after ive sat in front of it for the recommended time) because it lights up the room really well so I can do my work without straining my eyes. If its on but not facing at him, would that be ok?
Any info muchly appreciated
