I think part of the thought process needs to be the intent of the leash and the nature of the bird. We live in an area where hawks, owls, and coyotes are a way of life--we see them daily. Many pet owners (dogs and cats too) leave their pets off leash because they use voice recall. Cant tell you how many we've seen carried away when the owner was less than 5 feet away. As we always caution those new to the area, you may have a vet visit and puncture wounds, but you still have your pet. Is the harness an emergency protection measure, or is it to allow additional freedom? Maybe practice indoors, from the floor to allow the bird to adjust to the length of the tether and understand the limits/length. Just my thoughts. Super grateful that my breeder has already trained Liesl to the harness and I dont have to go through this.
