Leaving parrot while working long hours? second bird?

I love the house. My only fear now is that Hahnzel will believe it's time for us to "settle down and raise a family" if I give her that kind of alone time.

I think Fonzie is fine! Especially if this is the schedule he's always been used to. It would be an adjustment if your schedule changed suddenly. The advice I was given when I asked about getting a second bird was if "I" want another bird then get another one but don't get another one for the first bird. "I" wanted a sun conure and after much thought about schedule/time I got my little Cisco. It worked out ok because I had a schedule planned if they didn't get along....and they don't (well Cisco gets along with anything but Sassy doesn't like Cisco). Then I "saved" a U2 (we had to) so now I have 3 and that's my full flock. I can have Peanut (U2) and Cisco (SC) out at the same time at least...but Sassy has to have her own time. I like the little house you have for Fonzie! And Fonzie is beautiful! I think you're doing fine the way things are...unless of course "you" decide "you" want another bird...

Of course I want another bird for me, but for once I was gonna try to use common sense. I actually have 4 dogs, I said 3 cuz one is 16 and isn't gonna be with me too much longer. Can't believe I've had him 16 years. I also have a Tortoise and a heated outdoor tropical fish pond. Everyone thinks I have a zoo. I guess I kinda do.

I've researched a lot of birds and I have a few quirky things.... Don't particularly like birds with long tails. I like the short stubby bodies. I also live in a 3br townhouse so noise is an issue. Have a neighbor on one side.

This is what I've come up with:
Eclectus - too loud, feather plucking might be an issue
Caique - too loud, might not get along with Fonzie
Amazons - too loud, and kinda afraid of them
TAG - Not sure about my work schedule... Don't know much about them
Already love Fonz to pieces!

It's been said a lot already but I'm a nurse who works 8 and 12 hour shifts. Hahnzel makes this horrible "awww" when I go to leave and gets excited like she's won concert tickets from a radio show when I get home. Time in the morning, time when I get home, and she's happy.
Beware though. There are people on the board who will suggest getting another bird, then another, and still more...soon it's Alfred Hitchcock. ;)
Awww man - it's just us normal people with MBS. I really don't want to be compared with Alfred Hitchcock. :)

Yea!!! You have a zoo too. So what would be one more bird? Other than another cage to clean. :D

Ha ha. Yeah exactly! I think if it ain't broke.... Fonz is a happy little guy. Not sure I want to chance it. My mom would probably also kill me. She's not a fan of my zoo... Although she likes them all... Good thing the parents only visit a few times a year ;-)
