I have a 14 year old Patagonian Conure that after bringing home from an owner that didn't provide any toys, perches or playtime has no desire to "play" except to kill bells in his cage on his own. I would like to try to get him to have playtime with me other then just hanging out and occasionally biting me when he/she gets jealous of the other birds or people getting too close to me. Does anyone have any suggestions on some simple fun playtime activities I might be able to teach him to get him interested in playing with toys or that might stimulate some interest in doing something new? I am not very training savy so starting simple for my sake as well as my bird. Thank you for any suggestions!
Also......he seems to have an obsession with biting my ears. Not going for blood biting but grabbing them and hanging on.....typically doesn't "hurt" me doing this but can get a little too rough. It almost seems hes trying to control me via ear biting. Is this a common behavior? Is this something I have inadvertently conditioned him to find acceptable to do? I would suspect this is a behavior I have unintentionally trained him to do but I am not sure what caused it. I feel like I am raising a toddler that doesn't speak english LOL Any thoughts?
