My rescued cag, Iago, is doing great. He tolerates showers because he loves me, he eats pretty well (a bit of a princess mentality tho...haha), and opens up a bit every day. He is great and the whole family loves him.
Everyone offers treats (except my 7 year old I don't let her give him anything) and he accepts them. He has stood on my 22 year old sons arm once and I can tell he would accept anyone who would put the work into it.
My 22 year old son wants to build a friendship with Iago. He sits with him, talks with him, and gives treats. Where do we go from here? My son does fear "the beak" even though Iago has never bitten more than a nip when he first came home. If I sense he's aggravated, I leave him alone. I also pressure train him and say "no" while touching his beak and all that works well.
My son has never worked with a cag before so he is naturally tentative. I'd appreciate wisdom from you all as I think they could be great friends and perhaps Iago would go on to him in years to come when he outlives me (that's still a ways off but I think about it).
My son is also tentative because my gcc won't bond with him (Peep is a little brat) and has been bitten by Peep a few times even though he's done the right thing. I've taught him how to burrito Peep and that has put an end to Peeps reign of terror over him (it's actually comical...but I can't laugh while he is watching...). Therefore I can understand his tentative feelings for the cag's beak!
Thanks!
