I've been looking around online and can't find any info on this one. Our bedroom is attached to our laundry room, which is then attached to our bathroom. There is no door between our room and the laundry room, only a door way. Since we got the budgies, I have put their cages in the laundry room, is this safe? We don't use any kind of sprays or starches or anything, just laundry detergent in the washer. They never come in contact with any of it but you can still smell the detergent a bit when the washer is running. I can't imagine it is deadly in any way because ziggy has been down in our bedroom for the past four months or so and has been fine. She isn't in the laundry room, but she is only about 7 feet away from it and there is no door separating the two. This is the only place I have to keep the budgies, other than in my room on the floor and I won't do that to them since we have a dog. He wouldn't hurt them but I'm sure it would scare the ever living out of them if the dog kept walking by their cages. They seem alright, like it's not bothering them but does anyone know of any actual information on the safety of keeping birds around a washer and dryer? The only info I could find was pertaining more to birds being loose in a laundry room, and mentioned dangers such as them getting into soap and chemicals or falling into an open washing machine. I make sure the budgies are inside their cages with the doors closed while we are doing laundry and when they are loose there is nothing dangerous they can get into and I always keep the washer/dryer doors closed.
