Hi guys.

I bought some christmas themed chew toys from a local chain pet store. To be honest, they are "small pet" aimed (sold in with the rodent chew toys).
One toy is a line of thin sisal rope with some small wooden discs and some small vine balls on (nice little reef, no glue or bright dyes) I like this one; I got a little tree too but need to sand and rehash it as its held together with glue (my own fault for not noticing). these were no expensive so i'm not worried about taking them back, especially as the glue tree can be re-purposed after its sanded.
Last is a snowflake shaped wooden disc. As in the title, it appears to have been laser cut. Didn't occur to me til a week after buying it that being laser cut might be an issue (not given to pazu yet).

Is laser cut wood a no-no for birds? Should I sand down the blacken edges?

Am I worrying too much?

Would love if anyone had some insight?

Laser cutting wood will develop a 'gas-off' (smoke) that would be dangerous to birds.
Laser cutting, as you noted, does create a burned-edge. However, that edge has no chemical difference than if one was to cut the wood with a very dull Skillsaw blade. Your choice to remove that edge by sanding will remove the burnt surface. Once the surface is clean of any sign of 'burning' any issue that may have existed will be gone.

This happens occasionally if I dremel something too slowly, it's just from heat, so as SailBoat said, removing the burnt edge with sandpaper should be perfectly fine.
