A PARROT born during cyclone Larry caused a whirlwind of trouble for Dayle Jordan, who had given up hope of finding the native bird after it escaped until a "one-in-a million" phone call.
Larry the Australian king parrot flew into the wild from his Freshwater home on December 22.
The bird shares three cages with six other king parrots and they are allowed to fly around the house.
But Larry’s lust for adventure saw him sneak out the front door while Ms Jordan was leaving for the shops.
The finance manager had given up hope of finding Larry until she received a phone call from a fellow bird lover who found the animal relaxing in her Redlynch backyard on Christmas Eve.
Graphic designer Karrissa Armstrong found Larry and responded to a lost and found ad published in The Cairns Post, with the bird returning home on Boxing Day.
"I’ve got a bird myself and they’re the worst thing to lose because they are so hard to track down," Ms Armstrong said.
Upon his arrival home, Larry ate and slept all day, much to the delight of his owner.
"I’m ecstatic and over the moon," Ms Jordan said. The bird shares three cages with six other king parrots and they are allowed to fly around the house.
