Kissing your birds????

If I had read this question five months ago I would have said absolutely NO kissing on my end because I was petrified of Oliver's beak. Thanks to this awesome forum and a dear "bird" friend I am "cured" of my fear!!! So, my answer is oh yeah, we do lots of kissing...but dry as well. As for Oliver's scent...can't get enough!!!

I only kiss my bird on the side of his head because I've seen him try to pick up a poop he dropped one time... so I don't kiss his beak lol. As long as your lips are dry I'd say it's ok, my boyfriend used to kiss his bird too!

Gilbert so loves kisses that like many birds, he stands in or on his cage making huge, dramatic kissing noises. Sometimes it's at me, sometimes he is kissing a toy, but the sound is hilarious. ("Gil! You're a good boy!!!! muuuuwahhh, muuuuuuwaaaahhh, you're such a good bird" is screaming through the living room on a regular basis.)

My only issue is that he tries kissing my dog. They have slipped each other wet kisses before and i even brought it up at the vet last time i went. (Since there wasn't a bacterial infection, it's ok, but i'm being more diligent about keeping them separated because it will be a constant with wet doggy kisses.) Vet told me that the occasional accidental bird slipping the tongue or kissing the dog doesn't usually cause a problem, so don't worry, but it is definitely possible to give the bird a bacterial infection from it so avoid it.

My rb2 and my Chinese crested are best friends. I spoke to the vet about the fact that Nigel will fly down and play with Pias toys. They have been known to each tug at an end (like two dogs playing). I asked if there were germs that could get Nigel sick. He did say that there was bacteria that could get our birds sick from the dog toys. I have tried to be more diligent about this however it isn't always easy. Nigel is EVERYWHERE!

Yes, Gilbert also loves dog toys (he shops in the dog stores with me too, so he is fascinated with all the colors and squeaks) and he really can't help feeling the dogs are part of his flock. He usually doesn't play with the dog toys because they are on the floor, so that part is generally safe.

Ya I do kiss her but none of my pets have ever touched the inside of my mouth! Unlike some people who lick their pets I couldn't go a day without giving her a kiss good morning in between and a kiss good night!

I can't go a day without my kisses from Chili!! I say "where's my kisses?!" and make smooching sounds and she'll give me kisses (dry ones of course, no frenching!) and she'll rub her head on my chin. Snuggle resistance is futile.

Some of the posts were so funny. I kind of thought of them in the context of non-bird folks reading about us kissing and sniffing our birds. LOL.

I kiss Pritti everyday, on his head, beak and even sometimes on his naked peach-fuzzy belly if he opens his wings while on my finger. Sometimes he makes the loudest kissing noises, and other times he just reaches up for a little dry peck.

I kiss Valentino but he eat hot peppers so it is a bit spicy to kiss him. My lips end up burning like the fires of hell. Valentino will also show affection by sticking his tongue in the corner of my eye. He has this obsession with my eyes and it freaks me out. He has burned my eye before. It watered for 20 mins.

mango likes giving kisses too, its one of the few hands on interactions he enjoys.

munch... she demands kisses. heaven forbid you ignore her. she'll lean forward, chirp loudly and put her beak forward in your face and flap her wings when she wants a kiss. one time i ignored her kiss request and she GRABBED my lip in her beak and PULLED! it hurt! i learned then that if the boss asks for a kiss, you best do it haha
