Kindling/Shimmies anyone?

What do you use for dye Wendy? Do you air dry or kiln/oven dry?

I like making toys for her, but I do think she prefers the colored blocks more.

Tom, I use mostly VitaCritter:

It's not 'cheap', but a large bottle truly goes a VERY long way. I mix the dye with Isopropyl (1 part dye, 4 parts isopropyl). I either dip the wood or use a brush, and pour unused dye right back. Then let the dyed wood dry for about a week. The isopropyl will evaporate. :)

I was avoiding buying it in the store for that reason... it's incredibly expensive.

However....buying it in bulk like that would work fine, thanks!

Seems the only place that sells VitaCritter is "Out of Stock."

Major bummer!!! :( You can buy those food dye packs made by McCormick and use them, they work JUST as well (I've tried). Of course you'll have to get a massive amount..... just an idea for ya. Assorted Food Colors & Egg Dye | McCormick

OOOOOH....wait! Looky what I found!! :D
McCormick Red Food Coloring 16 oz (1 pint) 0.47L $8.96USD - Spice Place

Wendy I'm having nightmares of that pint of food coloring spilling and looking like a big murder scene.

Why? Go out and get some clear corn syrup, just have fun with it! :D

Stuff like that, it's just too easy.

And Wendy, I'd gladly be buying the 2x4's but my boyfriend drives a camaro, not exactly the best with trunk space or transportation capabilities other than looking fancy. :p

IDK if the back seat flips down like the lower models, but if it does, try a 6' board, or an 8' out the passenger window. The big stores will usually cut boards for you if you ask, too.

Nope :/ 2012 Camaro, SS/RS.

I'll have to see if the Lowes here will cut down boards, they've been kind of rude in the past when I've asked for help with other things.

I have an SUV but I still can't fit the full-length pine boards I use a LOT of, but my Lowes is happy to cut them in half, especially when I tell them I'm not at all fussy about the length they end up nor do I "cherry pick" the boards (seconds are fine, and I often get the warped ones in the cheapie bin). I just make sure it's the untreated pine (read the label stapled on the end).

I also purchase 2x4 and dowels to cut up to make toys. I just use food coloring and water and let them soak. The hard part is finding quality hardware, that and drying during the winter.

I then add a few other items, plastic softballs, rope, then assemble.

How much time I have, will dictate how small I make the blocks. I just picked up a large SS forging cage, that I cut up smaller dowels and blocks of wood to fill.

Pfft. Easy! In one window and out the next. Adhere bright orange flags on each end and you'll be good to go (especially in Philly). ROFLMAO! :D
