Kiki Shredding Cage Newspapers

I've started to notice that Kiki just loves shredding cage newspapers into long bits, She seems to really like doing this and spends maybe 1 or 2 hours doing it per day until the newspaper becomes a complete mess. And then she flaps her wings most of the times..You know the rest. It is quite annoying though since I have to change it every day, but it's no big deal.

What I'm wondering though is, can this be a bad habit? If so, What can I do to prevent it? I bought lots of interesting new toys to chew on, but she still shreds the newspapers when she's done playing with the toys.

Any thoughts?

Mine get phone books.

My zon and my CAG will sit and turn a phone book into confetti in about five hours. Cheapest dang shredder toy you can buy if you ask me!

Lately, I've been stuffing paper, foot toys and treats into empty soda (12 pack) boxes... and making shredder/foraging toys.

Buy a kid a fancy toy, and they'll play with the box that it came in...

She is a she, by an accurate DNA test. Could it really be nesting behaviour though? She is almost only 8 months old. Isn't that a bit too early? Or am I wrong?

Interesting ideas. I might try them out as well! Thanks for that. But is it really a good habit or is it a bad one? I'm not sure.

Dang!:30: I just tossed 3 phone books in the trash 2 days ago! Never even crossed my mind...Mango's really into the shredder phase right now. ....& he's a boy!

It's too early to be nesting, in my opinion, which doesn't mean they won't make one. It just means it isn't because they are "in the mood for love."

Shredding is a universal thing. I've never had a single bird that didn't enjoy his or her confetti session.

And as bird toys go, it doesn't get any better than free!

We collect phone books around here. I go through about three a week between my five...
