Okay, so you guys ALL know that Maui is still JUST a baby, only 13 weeks old. So, what I'm about to tell you, to me, is just amazing considering Maui is still a baby himself and he handled himself SO beautifully!!
Today, because the weather has cooled down tremendously, ALL the birds had to come inside from the lanai. While Maui was out of his cage and KiKi was out of hers, they flew around a bit, getting to know each other. By the end of the day, they both perched atop KiKi's cage. KiKi, our new sun conure, 10 weeks old, walked over to Maui :1218: and proceeded to try and get underneath Maui, for warmth? affection? KiKi has only been home since Friday and is the sweetest little bird, ever. Maui, being a baby himself, has NO idea what this little bird is asking of him :06:. As he stands very still and stares at her, he does allow her to sit VERY close next to him, KiKi, nearly leaning up against Maui's body, he begins to preen her. He has found a new friend. Maui preens her a bit and then backs up and puts his head down in front of her asking her to preen him now. She decides to continue to try to get underneath Maui, Maui doesn't mind her being super close, but doesn't really know what to think about this little bird trying so hard to crawl under him :06:. LOL..... KiKi, all fluffed out and making little baby noises, tries SO hard to get Maui to oblige, however, Maui just backs up. KiKi then decides since he won't hover over me, like Mama did, MAYBE he will feed me. As Maui gives her adoring looks :07: and preens her head, KiKi attempts at getting Maui to feed her. Maui has NO idea what the HECK she's doing, looking puzzled, he just stares at her while she continues to attempt at making Maui regurgitate for her, while pulling his head back and higher so she can't keep banging his beak with hers. Maui then puts his head down again in front of her, after a few seconds of KiKi staring at him,:smile013: she begins to preen Maui's head. I only wished I could have gotten this on video, it was the SWEETEST most PRECIOUS thing, I think I've EVER seen.
Maui gives her kisses, and she him,:bigkiss: She sits SO close to Maui, she nearly knocks him over and SHE'S leaning so far into him that SHE's nearly upside down. LOL, LOL:jumping40 BUT, Maui doesn't fly away, he just lets her snuggle up to him. He's SUCH a good baby boy!!!
Both birds are going to see the Vet on this coming Friday. We know where we got the new baby, they only owned her Mama and Daddy and KiKi's 1 clutch mate. The breeder for KiKi told us that both Mama and Daddy had just been to visit their Vet about 3 weeks ago, when KiKi was only 7 weeks old. Mama and Daddy bird received a perfect bill of health, so the liklihood of KiKi being sick is slim, so since they're both going Friday, we went ahead and allowed them both to cure their curiousity today, it was MORE than precious.
