Kidneys problem

Hello everyone! I have a question.
My koktail got paralysed after doxycycline therapy. The vet said most probably his kidneys became bigger and press on the nerve which is responsible for the legs. Now we make some injections with NaCl to take out extra water from the body.
But maybe some of you knows what else I can give him for his kidneys to make them normal size again. Maybe some seeds? Something.. Anything.. Just to help him walk again.

Very sorry that your Thread has been missed, Sadly it happens from time to time.

FYI: With medical issues it helps greatly to understand what part of this huge World you are located -- a Region is very helpful, as it allows an understand what Medical Support is commonly available.

Kidneys and Liver Issues are issues that are commonly cared for by a Certified Avian Vet (CAV) or an Avian Professional with additional Avian care as part of their studies. The availability of CAV's are ever more limited the further one is located from major cities. Is your Vet an Avian Professional?

I would guess that your Bird is passing a stool regularly and if so, I would guess that it has a green tone to part and white tone to another part and a clean water part and that all are fairly the same size or well mixed. Depending on the diet, it is possible for there to be a light tan color.

How long have the injections been provided? Most medications are fairly quick acting, but some, which require processing into the organs can take a bit longer. The same would be turn with a diet base change. With you already providing a medication it needs to be allowed time to determine its success.

Sailboat covered all bases, it is critical to work with a certified avian veterinarian if available. If not, at least one with extensive "exotic" experience and ability to reach out to online resources of knowledge.

All antibiotic can carry risks. Long-term use, to high a dose, or an individual more sensitive to the medication. Often these problems are neurological, or kidney or liver which process the metabolites of the drug.

Time is probably the best medicine in this case. As is supporting the kidneys as the doctor is doing with fluid therapy. Only to be done by doctor as to much fluid would flood the body possibly being fatal. So keep working with your doctor. Give your bird a chance to let inflammation go down and the body to heal itself hopefully.
