Kevin in Greytown 2.0

Still a very long stretch there Jim...
More likely Pete has had it with the patchwork electrical supply system, etc, etc, etc...

Pete, a tool that Julio has long used is to limit questions by answering only single questions and cutting off rambling, multi-question by the News Media.
If that doesn't work, release both barrels. It's a method of opening a wide path that others fear to step into, but its counter to your efforts of temper control... :D
Congratulations on the new position.

Pete snagged his job when reading the resume, interviewers noticed his work as the translator during spicey news reports coming out of Washington. It was said no one could handle the spice like Pete!

Bumble says she would like a job in Pete’s department. She’ll be happy to sit at the desk next to his.

Hmmm, he handles the spice well. That may indicate a background link to a World far, far, away, as defined by the Series of Books and Movies of the Dune World and its spice mines. The blue is a likely connection.

We'll see how many SciFi fan are visiting this Thread

Uhhhhh dunno what would pique his interest there. I think Pete is trying to calm down fake news! [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

RK might once again be holding back on the millet...extortion? Doesn't concern him much, coz as far as I know CAG's aren't a big fan of the tasty treat like other addicts are.

Jim

No Jim they put their shiny beaks up at millet. They prefer to use it in their conniving and bribing local officials.

Hahahahaha! You know I always appreciate a good, nerdy sci-fi reference, Steven! Enough so that I'll even forgive you for mentioning that abomination of a movie in the same sentence with Frank Herbert's works of genius.

You know, days later and I still laugh at that pic when I see it.

The new hires weren’t working efficiently so Kevin threatened them with claw raised.

Now that you have mentioned it Lea...any poop on the "no name" Grey at the hotel/Inn that you were looking in to??

Jim

So sad Jim they won’t get back to me. The poor grey sits there still in a horrible situation. I ask every time i pass by...

So funny this is the position he takes when he wants scratches. He bobs his foot up and down and bends his head down. Yes I scratch until i am permitted to leave.

Kevin's wings have finally grown out. He came horribly clipped. His poor wings were chopped to nubs. I know clipping is a touchy subject and I'm not against clipping actually to prevent harm coming to our feathered family, especially when they have no access to aviaries or places to fly safely. Here where we live in Bujumbura, we have hawks that pick off our chickens in the yard so I'm pretty careful with Kevin. I had hoped that Kevin would, after he curbs more of his crabby self (he can put a mean chomp on you lemme tell ya!), slowly learn to recall train. However, I now know why he loves to explore via floor, he simply can't get lift when he flies. He is safe, thank goodness, he flutters to the ground but it's been months and he's still struggling. Sometimes his left wing droops just a little so I wonder if there's an old injury there. Might explain some of his crabby behavior. I just laugh at him. He will step easily on a stick but if he really doesn't want to step up he won't and will say "no!" Hilarious!!!! Then, Mr. Sheet comes out and he makes a quick 1-2 to the stick or cage or stand if nearby. Anyway, there's some more news of HRH Kevin or RK for short. He's getting happier by the day and I'm content to work at his pace and let him recover from whatever happened to him in the past. I found a new love he has: pellets!!! Here he gets 100% fresh veggies and some fruit and the occasional homemade birdie bread. At a recent overseas trip I was able to bring a bag of pellets back just to see how he would like them and he LOVES them. Nice bribery material. He was well taken care of and doted on and actually ran the house (what's new about that?). When he first saw me after a couple of weeks, his eyes slit really small and then he asked for scratches. The next day he nailed me good tho...he has a tendency to hold a grudge and I wasn't watching and BAM! I've got a new scar on my finger! Kevin! I've not been bitten in years so the mighty has fallen! Guess I got proud. I'm quite sure RK was chuckling in the background as I stopped the bleeding. I think one of the worst parrot bites must be greys - they chomp down and don't let go eeeeeeek!!!!! He's happy with himself today and accepting tons of scratches and talking non-stop.

The life of a parrot servant is not easy.

We are hypnotised.

He is gorgeous! Sorry about the bite. Levi recently went through a very nasty phase, it was quite disturbing. I limited his freedom and got more strict and it worked. He is much more pleasant like he used to be, thank God!

It took a long time for Levi to get lift after his flight feathers grew back. Now, he's a champ. He needed to gain, confidence and strength. So, I'm sure Kevin will get there. :)

I'm so glad that his flight feathers have grown back in! You may be right about the possibility of an old injury, but remember it could also be that he just doesn't have the necessary strength conditioning, yet. If so, it might take a while before he is able to build up the pectoral strength necessary to lift his body weight. It might help if you can get him to start doing some flapping exercises to build up his strength. (Of course, if there's any sign that flapping causes any discomfort, it could be an indication that you're right about that old injury.)

You're taking such wonderful care of him, and I love that you're working with him at his pace. That kind of patience and understanding makes all the difference.

Thanks everyone we keep on with flapping but he does favor the wing. Today as I watched him after his daily flying try he held it low again poor baby.

Or...

He’s playing me...[emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

Meanwhile human servants coming into line nicely serving lovely pellets and shredded carrots. It’s a King’s life really.

Had once upon a time judged mid-large Parrots. There has long been a position that Birds hold their wings in an up position and never slumped (either a single wing or both). In addition, the wings should run parallel down the back and never have their tips crossed. As field research expanded those long held positions fell away. As the normals have expanded to include those wing positions.
FYI: When a Parrot shifts from 'it's' normal held positions, it's a reason to keep a wary eye.

Stephen really nailed the point regarding regaining strength and flap training is the central source for regaining that strength. And as Tami stated, along with that strength comes regaining confidence. And, that is best helped by retraining landing! Check-out the huge Thread in the Amazon Forum: I Love Amazons - ... and one of it many segments will be helpful, its titled something like Refledging an Adult Parrot.

Parrots that had not flown in years or who's experience flying was short really need retraining.

Enjoy.
