After working at my new job for about 5 months I decided to hang out one of my friends from work. Kenji completely freaked when he met him. First he dove out of his cage, then as I picked him up he dove to the door, then into Rosie's cage, the close hamper, and then climbed up Rosie's cage the whole time screeching.

I had to grab him in a towel and check his wings to make sure none of his blood feathers were broken. He ended up being fine, although his face has cuts/sores and he was very unhappy. I cancelled the plans I had with my friend and sent him home so I could calm down Kenji and make sure he was alright. Made me realize that although Kenji is alright with my family, and closest friends, he is not as well socialized as I thought and I do not know everything that scares him yet. I don't know if it was the hat, sweater, or thick glasses but something scared him.

He's forgiven me some, but it may take a few days for him to completely trust me again.

here's his pic, I think most of the damage was from flying/falling into the side of Rosie's cage. He has a damaged wing, and if he tries to fly he fails and crashes badly. The sore on his upper brow had a bump which is now gone.

Oh no!!!! Poor Kenji :( :( And poor you, too! You must have been frantic for him :(

I hope he feels better soon. Are you sure the wing isn't seriously damaged?

(((Hugs))) to you both.

Awww. Hugs to both you and Kenji.

He does look better in the second photo. I am sure he will be back to his old self in no time.

Perhaps you might have introduce new people really really slowly. Could you try a recording of different voice types and the progress to actual people. Just putting it out there.

Our Ekkie, Fred HATES ball caps. He enjoys interacting with people but if anyone, including my wife or myself is wearing a ball cap and gets within six feet of his cage, he tries to get through the other side of the cage.

I agree, I have heard many stories about birds hating people wearing hats and freaking out over it.
Your poor baby, hope he recovers quickly and has no lasting fears over it.

Both of my sennies hates hats and I like to wear ball caps. One of them hates jackets. They freak out.
