Kali the catalina macaw is growing up *pics*

How exciting! :) It will be interesting to see her color since they're all so variable.

I know!!! Its so hard to predict anything other than they will be stunning:-) I don't have much longer to wait, so that helps lol

Doogie is a very handsome boy! He has very beautiful color. Lol it looks like he knows he is a handsome boy to:cool: I also like the baby macaws. In Kali's Easter pics, she looks like a little dragon guarding her eggs:eek: I really can't wait to see the rest of Kali's colors. I think she will have a lot of yellow around the top of her neck and a suspect she will have that light blue on the head all the way down her back.:D

For a little history, I had a bird book that says that the very first macaw hybrids made in captivity were from Catalina Island, 26 miles off the coast of California where they apparently had a bird sanctuary. I believe they said this was 1937. The whole thing of raising macaws in captivity is really a young experience and really didn't get spooled up until the 70's. Most of the time the male is a Scarlet and the female is a B&G, only because there are more male Scarlets than hens and B&G hens seem to make better moms, but it can be done the other way. Most Catalinas I have seen have a lighter color streaking through the beak and some have much more orange closer to red of a chest color, even to the point of looking like a Harliquin. Here is another more frontal pic of Doog and one of his back showing the variation in green/blue colors. Click image to enlarge.
