Thank you RainbowRose! :) Haha, they are addictive aren't they? :p

Normal Kakariki have the dark red iris. Black Eyed Kakariki have an extremely dark brown/red Iris, almost completely black. When a Black Eyed Kakariki's iris is dilated it's very difficult to tell without a light on the eye, because it is SO dark it is almost the same darkness as the pupil.

Clear is Yellow, so Black Eyed Clear and Black Eyed Yellow are the same. But Some people think Lutino is the same as BEC/BEY. But it's not... I've found that BEC's have a much brighter/neon yellow and paler flight feathers.. but i could be wrong. Not to mention Lutinos have the normal red eye colour.

Hope that helps. :D

Kinny! You have many Kakarikis (I am jealous because they are really cute and colorful! I want a second one), but I have a question! What is black eyed clear I always hear of it! So what is black eyed clear and even more in question of what color is the iris when dilated???

Thank you :) Yep.

Sad news: We had a 45 degree day and lost 3 of our Kakariki... we now have NO green ones, and we lost Niiro... :'(

Oh no! Sorry to hear this Liana! I love the kaks, I had a little green male as a pet named Tiki and know what sweet birds they are......

Oh my god!!!!! I'm so sorry to hear that!!! Ugh that's terrible :'( are they in an outdoor aviary or was it just super frigid!? Scaring me because it's been as low as 6 degrees here some nights lately. My birds are in my room.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my Tiki in October and it'll never be the same, I loved that Kakariki. I did acquire his baby sister though. So I have a new kak.

They are amazing pets tho so I am truly sorry for your loss and I am giving my condolences to you :( that is truly terrible news to hear :'(

Thank you everyone.. I'm still finding it difficult to go out and talk to the Kaks.... cos I'd go up to all of them and say their names... just became part of the feeding routine... :/

Yeah, outdoor aviary. It was the hot strong winds that killed them.. that and them not drinking their water. Kaks are pretty ok with freezing temperatures..they have a LOT of thick warm down at the base of every feather.. Heat is what's hard on them..

Thanks.. yeah I love them.. They are great birds. <3
