So we live right next to a major river, and we have a tree that gets visited by plenty of osprey, red tails, and the occasional bald eagle...

This morning I noticed one perched in the tree and it seemed larger than the usual red tails. I have seen an adult bald eagle, but now that I'm looking at my pictures I took this morning it ****might*** be a juvenile bald eagle...? The beak looks more like a bald eagle than a red tail.

I apologize for the poor photo quality- I was using my canon and didn't have enough zoom; the tree is a couple hundred feet up and away so I did my best lol

JACKPOT!!! That sure looks like a juvenile Bald Eagle to me!! :D They don't develop the full white head until they are around 5 years, I believe.

The unfortunate thing is that that tree will have to be topped at some point :(

I vote for golden eagle :) Though to be honest the only guarantee is that it is an eagle based on the beak.

I didn't even think of a Golden! The only reason I thought a Bald Eagle is because I've seen an adult in that tree before- white head and ENORMOUS!!!

They are super cool. We only get bald eagles in the winter.

I see Red Tails and Ospreys year round, and we have Great Horned owls that nest behind our house in the trees...lots of wildlife in my backyard lol :D

I'll have to post some pictures at some point- I do have pics of the GH owl and RT's :)

We also have plenty of white tailed deer that graze with our horse LOL they love to come into the property to eat all the fruit in the fall- despite our GSD on patrol haha

Immature Bald Eagle, not a Golden. pretty common around here.

Wow that's awesome. We have several pairs of red tail hawks in some trees across the street and down the road. Love to watch them when they are out hunting, the noise they make calling each other. And it's funny watching the black birds chase and dive bomb them when they get too close to their nests. Ariel acrobats, way cool to watch.

I definitely need to get another lens with more zoom lol I'm always missing out on something

From the picture and the location I think its a junvinle Bald Eagle. Bald Eagles are "fishing

eagles" and usually found around water. Golden Eagle are "buteos" and eat mammals and

birds. They are usually far from water. Ether way it's a cool photo. Thank for sharing it.

I used to observe a pair of Bald Eagles in my backyard up in South Dakota when I used to live in the middle of nowhere. I had a creek that runs through the backyard. I sit outside to observe them, they were cool to watch.

Good info! I have no doubt it's a Bald Eagle then because the river is LITERALLY right across the street; I could walk to its bank in a few minutes- and the river can be seen from the top of that tree!

And thank you! I'll be posting more bird photos in a short bit...
